How about his comment when the interviewer asks how it feels to still getting up there and jamming and Butch says it's like being in love. As a fan that goes to tons of Beacon shows, I know what he means. I'm thinking, each year: really? do I want to go to so many shows? But once the run starts, it is like a crush, you just want to keep being there.

WTF? Its not like you'll hear Dickey slagging on Butch at this late date. He has a fixation or fetish about Dicky.

It's his jabs at DB that are consistent.. why in the heck can't he answer a question without elaborating and painting a picture of negativity..

In his answer the word "him" stands out as if DB is the broken one here... I've seen DBGS for the last 12 yrs .. and he certainly isn't broken... DB never said an unkind word in public about any of the ABB in fact always extends his gratitude for the opportunity being in that band gave him.. I have personally heard DB at the beginning of a show take a moment before he started to express that. It was quite an emotional moment.

here's the question and answer..

Q. You guys received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys earlier this year. Did anyone talk to Dickey [Betts, the bandís original guitarist who left after a fallout in 2000]?

A. He didnít come. He was coming all the way until the day before and then canceled. We worked it out for him to fly in the next morning for the ceremony, but I guess he just didnít want to come. I donít know if weíll ever see each other again. Everybody was thinking the Grammys would be a great chance to see each other without having to play. But itís like Humpty Dumpty. I canít see all the kings horses putting him together again. It was his choice [to leave the band] no matter how many times you read that he was fired by fax.

America's BEST Band for sure ... and they have a clown talking for the most part... I really have come to the conclusion Butch can not help himself.. he doesn't even think his remarks are insulting... because he has no sense.

It's the same Old same Old...

I believe Butch is referring to the fact that the band asked Dickey to go to rehab and he declined. Thereby choosing not to get the help he needed and thus was fired. But maybe I'm wrong.

I don't fault Butch for that interview. He was asked a direct question, and he gave a direct answer. Maybe it would have been more "civil" to say something like, "I'm not interested in talking about Dickey Betts," but if he had said that people would take it the wrong way as well. Some would call him a loudmouth, but at least he gives a good interview and doesn't act cryptic and weird the way that Gregg does most of the time. He made it clear that they were in contact with Dickey leading up to the event (probably through a third party) and that they were hoping he'd come but that he cancelled at the last minute.

Also, I didn't take the Humpty Dumpty reference as applying to Dickey as a human being but as applying to their relationship: You can't put it back together. I realize he said "him," but I think that was a pronoun error or a Freudian slip.

This is how I read it, as well, and how Gregg portrays it in his book. Not saying that's what happened but you've got at least 2 people saying the same thing. Getting Jaimoe to chime in one day would be helpful in setting the record straight, because I'm sure he'd tell it like it is.

Actually, I think that's a fair answer that doesn't put any negative light on Dickey, and BT's most civil answer to that question in a very long time.

I agree, almost like the answer didn't even come from Butch! Nice to see it from him.

That's as much a waste of effort as responding to a gina post.

At this point does it really matter... If you like Dickey (include me in that group) go see him & be thankful that you can. If you like the current ABB...ditto. Be thankful that you can.

Folk's... the train is slowly coming to the end of the line for both groups. Be glad you have had the chance to see & hear it all these years. Trust me you will miss it when it is gone.

Big Dave... I feel ya.

I love this music... it is a very important part of my life but the reality is I can't see them, Dickey or the Brothers playing out 5 years from now... I am really glad I made the effort to see DB & GS over in Bethlehem, PA this year.

According to Gregg in his book, Dickey was asked to not go on the summer tour and get help and he would be back for the following season. Dickey sued the band and that is how he left permanently. Dickey quit. He was not fired.

Butch doesn't need to throw any more barbs and I wish he would quit. However, it isn't true that Dickey didn't ever say anything negative about his former bandmates. He came out firing publicly in May 2000, when all the band basically said was "creative differences" and "summer off." He told the public about their private communications and essentially accused them of being liars and hypocrites. Agree or disagree with Dickey, it was big slam at the others who only afterward went public. In the years since, Dickey has been much more gracious toward then Gregg or Butch in interviews for sure.

I am glad to see Derek getting more good PR.

Don't know what is more amusing - the Gregg/Butch/Dickey quotes that get over analyzed to death, or the people on this board who will post multiple pages that should be titled "I want Butch to say ____" and "If Only Dickey said ____".

I'd hope these discussions can just start and stay over in Playpen or WP forums because after the link to the articles or videos, the discussions are exactly the same: People who cannot get over it, blaming their 'rockstar heroes' for not getting over it. Sad to see a soooo many boomer boo-hoo blamers, but thankfully not enough of you to ruin a show.
