I got the idea from the Dickey thread. Posting arguments here will probably be just as effective as the ones on the Dickey thread.

Jack truely is one hell of a player. One of my favorite versions of the band.

This would probably be better than the stupid Dickey thread... no need to whine about drinking and drugs and Scooter Herring in this one.

The Dickey/Jack shows were the best live ABB shows since the band resurrected in 1989, bar NONE!!!

Jack is pure hell fire with a kiss of heaven when he plays. I miss him alot. However, as much as I'd like to see him back, the band now is just so right on top of it all, I'd hate to see it disrupted....and having three guitarists is cheesy...

I agree with Islalala, Jack Pearson is truly stunning on slide, but where the hell would you put him? Warren and Derek together now is toooooooo great.

That's true, there are seven of them and it's getting a little crowded up there. It'd be great to see him guest for more than one song every couple of years.

Sadly, 2 things are not going to happen, Jack or Dickey rejoining the band. So we just have to "listen to the tapes" of the real ABB. Gladly there are plenty of those out there. JAck was like no other. The best bird calls ever!

Or, you know, you could go see them in concert.

Did peachypair really just refer to Jack and Dickey as the real ABB?
Am I losing my mind?
I would love to hear Jack Pearson guest on some songs, but I haven't missed Dickey for a second. Not trying to be mean (listen to "Peakin at the Beacon").

Good thread -- excellent posts all around.
Just when I thought not much could top the best shows of the Warren Allen era, Jack and Otiel came along and just outdid themselves. The post Duane/Berry band never sounded better, I found myself thinking.
Jack is just great -- he was sooo good in the band and for the band that summer. Slide guitar? You had it right there.
But, as was posted, with Warren and Derek having the incredible vibe and interplay they have, and with the Brothers sounding like they do -- we probably won't see Jack back.
I know I've posted this before, but a most interesting show is Sept. 1993 ion Richmond, with Warren and Jack, while Dickey was temporarily away -- it provides a real precursor (?) to what we hear today -- excellent show.
Hey -- whether Warren, Derek, Jack, Jimmy, Dan T., and of course the original, Mr. Betts -- "Allman Brothers Band" and "killer guitar playing" will always be synonyms.

I would like to see Jack and Jimmy Herring together for a whole tour, long enough for them to really get comfortable with each other. That would be something. Since we're dreaming and all. Warren could probably use a break anyway.

Jack is a great player, but his time in the band was by far my least favorite lineup since 89. I'm not even necessarily saying it was Jack's fault, some of it was that Oteil was also new and took a while to really hit his stride with the ABB.

On a positive note, the Fox shows in 98 were VERY good. However, even while Jack was still in the band I was secretly hoping for the day that Derek would get "called up to the big leagues." I have felt that it was his ultimate destiny since the first time I saw him play with the Allman Brothers at the ripe old age of 12. When I heard that Derek was joining the ABB, I was probably the happiest camper in the whole USA!

I too would love to see Jack and Jimmy together, Jeck. Does anyone know if they have played together before?

I've never heard about it... doesn't look like they've shared the stage with the ABB, even as guests.

Just heard Hot'Lanta from 3/6/98 for the first time, and it has one of those "only Jack Pearson" stunts: one note, with vibrato, lasting 24 seconds. A good half of his solo.

Well, I don't know about "only Jack Pearson." I've seen Carlos Santana hold notes for well over a minute before, once for nearly two minutes. I think the Lotus album has several notes in the 30-40 second range.

That being said, Jack is good as the long single-note sustain, no doubt about it!

Jack is a good player. I certainly like him much more than Dan Toler. I saw him play the night after having an emergency appendectomy. Talk about toughness. But I didn't really care for that lineup. I saw him play about 10 times and I was not as impressed with him as I have been with Derek or Warren.

That may be true, Rob- definitely nobody else the ABB has ever had would do it, though.

Just wanted to pipe in w/ some Jack love of my own- had the pleasure of seeing/hearing him @ SPAC in '98- THE BEST "True Grvity" I've ever heard. Now there's a song that needs a comeback....
