The venue gives BB what looks like higher billing, so I'm guessing he closes.

I have found this bill to be a bit of a mismatch. TTB is a high energy show. Last summer at Chastain, TTB was boogying.....Oteil and the horn section were dancing all over the place, and the crowd was on their feet at the end reacting to the musical fireworks on stage.

The last BB show I saw was 12-13 years ago and he was almost too mellow following Buddy Guy. I've heard his show has mellowed even more since.

Wondering how this is going to come off at Chastain with BB closing...

BB king played London last year and the TTB was in London also so BB brought Derek and Susan out to play. It must have gone over so well that they arranged a tour in the states.

Check out the DVD of the show.

Yeah Tim, definitely a mismatch. A friend who saw BB at the Fox last yr said it was depressing. If it works out that way again, I may make an early night of it.

God, I mean no disrespect. I've seen BB King 3 times over the past 5 years. Each time, he has gotten incrementally more ... addled.

There are moments of brilliance and licks from his past. Of all the plastic "guitar gods" in the world, this is THE man who inspired virtually every player out there. If he didn't inspire you, I'm sure he inspired someone who did inspire you.

At the last show that I attended, he rarely (if ever) played a complete song. He didn't even complete most of the digressions and non sequiters that he went off into.

Having said all that, I will be present until the final note that he plays has finished ringing. My way of thanking BB for all the joy that he has given to me directly and indirectly.

I took my son to BB last fall mostly because I wanted my son to see BB... it's pleasant and not depressing unless you let it be depressing... but it's more of a valedictory tour than a musical event... if that makes any sense.

Here's a little item I wrote about taking Jacob to see B.B.:

that was probably me at the fox, as I recall that was the first time he didn't make it all the way through "thrill is gone," something distracted him and he had to start talking about that mid-song. that particular night he was talking a lot about some recent dental work. nonetheless, he came back with "somebody loves you, guess who" and if you know that song, it was a good way to finish off the evening--I have said for 3 or 4 years that I don't need to see him again, but something always happens and I show up anyway...we will see--a lot depends on the weather. I guess if you know what to expect and you go anyway, that's what you get. I'm sure derek and susan will come out at some point during his set and lend some licks to one or two of his tunes.

I too took my son to see BB last fall and spent some big bucks too. It was pitiful. If anybody has seen BB anywhere near his prime. Don't go it's depressing. BB has a killer band. They are actually probably better than Dereks, but BB reminded me of my mom and father. Dad died of Parkinsons and Mom Alzheimers. Heartbreaking ... Although I bet Derek and Susan are closing ... past BB's bedtime.

TTB closes all of the BB dates except for the Hollywood Bowl show.
