I was thinking the other day about all of the successful (either with fans here or critics or both) bands/artists, that aside from a few stray songs, are absent from my collection. I guess I just never got hooked or took the time to get into the following:

Beach Boys
Sex Pistols
The Clash
Yes
ELP
Bruce Springsteen
Judas Priest
REM
Genesis
King Crimson
Widespread Panic
Iron Maiden (although I've enjoyed some of what I've heard..needs the right mood)
Elvis Costello
String Cheese Incident (I do like bluegrass, but..)
Billy Joel
Kiss (Do they count? )

Anyway, I don't own a single record by any of these acts......not even a GHTS. Just felt like sharing that

Eric Clapton.

Nothing he's done has ever really struck me except for, oddlly enough, his late 80's stuff. But even that I only like and don't love.

His blues always lacked fire; his pop always lacked melody. I don't love his voice or his playing all that much.

He kinda bores me.

I would recommend picking up Springsteen's Nebraska, one of the all-time greatest statements ever made by a pop artist. It's beauty is ethereal.

I've tried numerous times to get into the Grateful Dead. I've had people give me live shows, "OK, wait till you hear this!" As much as I've wanted to like them, it never happened. Guess I don't get it.

Good ones. I would add:

Van Halen
Rush

Really want to like Panic, but don't.

Clash, REM and Springsteen are can't do withouts. Ah well, we can't all like the same things.

Funny, I didn't even think of Derek and the Dominoes. Yeah, I dig that stuff a lot. Thanks for reminding me.

Cream, though? Jack Bruce was the best part of that band, and I don't love them anyway.

uh-oh! trying to get something started
I actually agree with what you said with respect to most of the last 40 years....and I'll include the late eighties. Although, I think his unplugged record was pretty good. HOWEVER, I think he was on fire from 1965-1971 and was part of some great albums, especially the D&D records and the first John Mayall album.

I do like the Dead. I never got into the hippie aesthetic that surrounds it, drugs and spacey language and beads, etc., but I just like good roots/Americana rock. There are so many influences in their music; folk, country, blues, bluegrass. It's like a big melting pot of Americana. And Hunter wrote some great lyrics to compliment the music. I prefer the albums from 69-72 the most. And also, I'm a big fan of the Reckoning (1980). These are the albums where they shine, I think.

I don't do much Journey, Kansas, or Boston either. I guess I thought they went w/o mention

I do enjoy the groove of post-green Fleetwood mac on occasion. Maybe b/c I like the vocals of Stevie Nicks and Christine perfect.

Agree with adding VH. I forgot that one. I do like a little Rush now and then.

I never liked heavy metal and some other genres, so won't list.... I'll stick to ones many people really like, but just don't strike a chord for me (pun)

Stevie Ray Vaughn: His singing isn't my cup of tea, and his playing repetitive. I want to turn him off, geez, this is like confession here..... I know a sin...

Warren Haynes singing. Sorry, it isn't bad, but he just isn't my thing. Nobody presents an argument he is a singer who is great, so I don't think not prefering him is too out there. He is nasely to be blunt. Good at times. If he only played tamborine and sang, people would not but his albums, right? And Mule is too, umm, Mule, so another sin here.

Phish: Why? well, Phish........

The Eagles: Spoiled California brats who did a great album when they came out, then all grew egos and became a bad representation of the suburban nightmare.

That is funny. I really just felt like talking about music again. There have been a lot of heavy topics of late. I wasn't intending to start a thread full of band bashing; really just found it interesting to think about the acts that I can't get into despite critical and/or knowledgeable fans favor.

Enjoyed that post, Scrambldybones.

Definitely agree on Styx, Queen, and Billy Joel.
