Ok I need some help and feedback here people.

I have been negligent in listening to the new family band I must say so my questiions and concerns might be very dated and already processed here by the good people who LOVE this band and all extended bands.......

Can I get a hell yeah or a right on??

So.

I just listened to Everybody's Talkin' by the new band and was underwhelmed completely and somewhat disappointed to say the least.

What is going on? Harry Nilson and Stevie Wonder covers......Rollin & Tumblin was done on Fresh Cream. There is no sign of Derek really.....I mean there are some notes.

Are Kofi and Oteil really in the mix? Are there really two drummers?

Am I missing something here?

Respectfully submitted from St. Louis home of The Cardinals.

I miss the Evil Clown and Sahib Teri Bandi.

This is not good news. I'm still undecided on the new band, but I'll know a LOT more come September 8th @ The Mountain Winery in Saratoga. For that reason I haven't bought Everybody's Talkin' yet.

I tried recently to get into Revelator again, thinking maybe I just didn't get it the first time. Still don't like it much at all...........and to think it won the Best Blues Album Grammy over Gregg and Warren? To me, Gregg's and Warren's are both much better records. I did see the webcast of TTB though...........maybe six months ago? I thought they were very good, so I'm not gonna know until I see them for myself.

I will say this: In my opinion Revelator does not even come close to The Derek Trucks Band's last record, Already Free. But that's just my opinion.

I'm with you, I've tried to like this CD, I really have. Don't dislike it...it just.... puts me to sleep ...

It is a Susan Tedeschi CD with Derek's name attached to it.

After seeing this band twice now, I firmly believe that 95% of the attraction that is seeing them "live" is the possibility that Derek might just blow your mind.

Here we go again. You and some don't like them and many like me love them. These threads are getting extremely boring and repetitive and stupid. Now we will have the same cast of characters come on here and state how they don't like the new band and they miss the DTB and blah, blah, blah!!!! Then they will come back on posting as if they are victims being attacked after those who like the band defend why. It is getting very old. Whether you or me or anyone else like them or dislike them they are here for the long haul so you better get used to them. All of the bitching and moaning in the world won't make Derek and Susan do anything other than what they want to do. Don't like them, just don't go and don't listen. Simple as that. There is plenty other great music out there for you to choose from. For the same people to constantly come on here and post cutting both Derek and Susan down for doing what they want to do musically is just utterly ridiculous IMO.

It must Tuesday. Not quite sure when it became the trash TTB day but oh well....

Makes me miss the Bring Dickey Back threads. Never thought Derek would be on an entire album and somehow lost except for "some notes."

Did you know that Susan turns his volume off?

She also only allows him to stay up past 10 PM on weekends.

He can only play guitar after eating all of his veggies.

Not only that but she won't allow Oteil and Kofi to actually be in the mix.

The drummers are not allowed to use sticks or brushes and must only handclap the beat.

Forced Mike to join through threats of beating him up after school.

Which is why it is an album with only Susan and some horns.

Not sure what Derek ever did to you guys but really getting sad after the first two hundred threads. Now we get each individual I hate the TTB stories.

Must be Tuesdays.

Agree 100%

Reminds me of another artist who did something different for a while?

I agree 100%.

However, I like "Everybody's Talkin'" more than "Revelator" which I thought was a low-key introspective, somewhat boring record. Working in and around the blues industry - I write for American Blues News & Blues Blast - many people I have spoken to were more than a little pissed that "Revelator" won the Grammy for Blues since it's not really a blues album and there were many blues albums that were better. "Low Country Blues" is at least a blues record and would have been my choice or maybe Tab Benoit's "Wetlands."

For the record, I'm not "trashing" either record or the band. There are some days I'm in the mood for a quiet low key record and then maybe I'll listen to "Revelator" and enjoy it. Sometimes discussing a record you don't like will key you in on what other people do like and give you a new perspective on it and change your mind. Personally, I'm looking forward to their set at Peach Fest.

wow.......no throwing the furniture around the room here 68 not allowed and not what the langman is about. I did say respectfully submitted so chill.

This question is a far cry from comparing other bands especially Dickey so please let that go for those who missed understood my respectful message and question.

I heard what I heard and I am confirmed here inspite of well whatever.

I am going to see the new band here in St Louis soon and am very excited......I just wanted some opinions and am now wearing a helmet......ha.

Just writing respectful doesn't mean that it is.

Much like some that write aggressive posts and then end with Peace.

No need for helmuts. You got the reaction that you wanted.

I like the band and the album but I think the sound mix is lacking. I can't put my finger on what it is but listen to it next to Warren's Live at the Moody theatre. It is IMO sonically underwhelming. Not trying to start a Warren vs Derek battle here.

I've got uptight blasting out right now. What I can tell you is that I can't think of anything else that comes close to this. I love it. And I lay a great deal of the blame for that at Oteil's door... The dude is a badass. So much joy falling out of my speakers right now. But, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. Can't expect everyone to like it!

I thought their version of Everybody's Talkin' was a highlight of the set and shows what they can do with a really well-written piece of music, which I think is something they are lacking. DTB's "Already Free" has some great writing on it and I had high hopes but it didn't pan out for me on Revelator.

Was that the respectful part? Sorry that your intentions were pathetically obvious all along.

Don't like it then don't listen.

I'm with Slidejules on this. I prefer Oteil with the TTB then any other lineup that I have seen him with. can't wait till next month. Get a chance to see a great band and chat with some awesome people.

Derek is way too nice of a guy for this continued assault on here. For that matter, the entire band is. Real nice people that are so giving to the fanbase and from a genuine kindness. Not to mention killer musicians. Even if you don't care for the TTB, there are much worse acts to go after. They don't deserve this on a constant basis.

Stevie is a total bad ass. Like most artists I like, his 80's output wasn't that great and too synth heavy and most people just think of him for that stuff. Usually you talk to anyone in the music biz in any genre and they'll say nothing but great stuff about him.

His run of albums in the 70's are incredible. Especially Inner visions. If you're going to get 1 Stevie Wonder record, this is it even if everyone else thinks Songs in the Key of Life is his best, I think Inner visions is his greatest statement as an artist. Talking Book and Music of My Mind are great also. I like Songs in the Key of Life but it's a little over rated IMO.

So.......back to DTB. Of course I like it when they cover Stevie. I think they could do a sick Living For the City. Maybe with Mike singing some of the leads.

I just think something in regards to the sound is off a bit on the new live record. I thought the opposite of Revelator. The sound was great. Much better sound than Low Country Blues but the songs weren't totally there for me. Sometimes sound wins you the grammy in these categories.

I love the new live album Everybody's Talkin'. I like it better than Revelator just because it is live and I don't care too much for slow songs. Originals are nice but the band rocks the covers harder than anyone else. Best music currently being made in the world. I guess my thoughts are just the opposite of the original post.

Can't wait to see them in Tuscaloosa in August.

I am with J-MAC. Hvve seen them twice now, and I agree that they are about the best thing going with something new to offer.

Their performance at the MN Zoo Sunday night kicked ass. Period.

Hell yes!I saw this band for the first time last fall in Lynn Ma.Allthough the show was good,it seemed to be lacking something.I really like Revalator, but the mix on the live album is kinda flat,IMO.But if you go to Iclips,You can Stream their last show from Mt.jam for free. It's Killer! The time they have spent on the road has really paid off.I would go see this band again in a heartbeat.,peace all, matt

maybe there is something wrong with my ears, but i love Everybody's talking. in fact, i think the first two songs on the album might be one of the 1 >> 2 combos every to start a live album.

ti thought that the midnight in harlem at the crossroads fest was the definitive recording until i heard this version. not sure if this can be topped.

this band is on fire and i'm glad derek made this move. the dtb (imho) was getting a little stale at the end. never thought i'd be bored at a dtb show, but was at the keswick. and i think derek knew it.

nothing stale about this band. they are all smiles and laughs. while i don't listen to revelator (at all really), i get my spirit moving by listening to ET.

My only problem I have with this band is Susan's trying to sound like some other singer, Janis? I dunno, but if you listen to her early stuff she doesn't seem to have that self induced faked whiskey laden growl. Did she have throat surgery sometime in her career? Might just be me, I'm an old fart.
