Radio Woodstock and world-renowned guitarist Warren Haynes (Gov’t Mule, Allman Brothers Band, The Dead) are proud to announce a very special addition to the Mountain Jam music program: Gov’t Mule’s Tribute Ramble featuring The Levon Helm Band on Saturday, June 2nd.

During their second set on Saturday night, Gov’t Mule will be joined by the full Levon Helm Band including Amy Helm, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams and the LHB Horns among others. The set will feature music from Levon’s 50+ year career.

Levon Helm, the long-time drummer and singer for The Band, a 2-time Mountain Jam performer and Woodstock resident, passed away in April at the age of 71 after a decade-long battle with cancer.

“Levon was a musical hero of mine,” says Warren Haynes. “His 70th birthday celebration at Mountain Jam two years ago was a magical night and a truly inspiring musical performance. So bringing back that incredible band to share in our tribute seemed like a great way to honor his memory.”

“Levon really touched the lives of so many people,” says Radio Woodstock/Mountain Jam president/owner Gary Chetkof. “He was a larger-than-life figure here in the Hudson Valley, so it’s a true privilege and honor to be able to pay tribute to his life music at a festival so close to his hometown.”

Levon Helm presented his Ramble On The Road at the fourth annual Mountain Jam Festival in 2008 and returned in 2010 for his 70th Birthday Jubilee, a set featuring the Levon Helm Band and a host of special guests including Warren Haynes, Donald Fagen, Ray LaMontagne, Sam Bush, Steve Earle, Patterson Hood, and Jackie Greene among others.

I really enjoyed Levon's birthday bash at Mt. Jam back in 2010, but while I'll probably get flamed for saying this, I'd much rather prefer a second night of strictly Mule as it's most likely going to be the only two shows I see with Mule this year. Still, a nice gesture on the part of Warren and Mule.

You won't get flamed by me. I too would prefer two sets of just Mule but it would have been nice if they added in the tribute set on Sunday. I am sure it will be great but I am really looking forward to the Mule!

Good to hear I'm not the only one....I say dump Franti from the main stage on Sunday and perform this tribute then. He is, after all, playing earlier that day on the small stage anyway. I'll probably get flamed by all the Franti fans for suggesting this idea.

Once again, you won't get flamed by me. Franti is OK but it seems he plays the same exact set each year which is somewhat boring to me. I can see his appeal and have enjoyed seeing him a couple of times but his shows just seem repetitive to me.

I feel the same way. Loved him the first few times I've seen him, but it's the same show every year. That said, he is a fan favorite at Mt. Jam and certainly is a draw for many attendees.

It's not like Mule hasn't done To Love Somebody before. Bet you they do it at MJ.

Sorry to have to miss Mt Jam this year due to work. Great, but not surprising, that Warren is adding the Levon tribute, hope there are some clips up on youtube for those of us who can't be there.
