Bluegrass version of 'Right Place, Wrong Time' would do it for me.

Doubt it would happen, but I say Whipping Post or maybe even a WP Jam somewhere in the set. It's as much his song as anyone else's. I'm sure the fans would dig seeing him play on that tune again.

If not, then surely something by Dylan.

I really like those 3 songs but personally i think none of them "belong" in a Dickey Betts setlist. Not his thing, not his style. I hope i'm able to see him this summer and woudn't mind a setlist surprise from his back catalogue or a new country/bluegrass/blues original or cover but not a song like those. That's more a Mule thing (which i love btw).

A 20 min "Lost Highway Jam" or a Luke the Drifter "Rambin Man" in the middle of a 20 min "Ramblin Jam"

I think it would probably have a country tinge to it... Billy Joe Shaver or Haggard...

Of course don't count out a chuck berry or freddie king tune!

Feel at this point seeing Dickey do something out of the ordinary would not happen, but how about this, seeing him and Willie Nelson play together, been done right. One more time. Dickey to me keeps it close to home these days playing wise, but that is ok for the love of the old Dickey sound.

Thats what I was going to say , some Texas swing and Dickey excels at that stuff.

Maybe something jazzy???

Cover a Santana song.

I can't help but think the OP was meant as a joke.

Seriously, Hag is a good choice.

He should do a bunch of covers. Keep things fresh.

How about:

On The Road Again
Rolling In My Sweet Baby's Arms
Little Martha (the full band version he worked up a few years ago)
The Preacher
Tangled Up In Blue
Let It Rock
Promised Land
Dimples
Hey Good Lookin'
Rave On (from his 2001 album)

Maybe a Hot Tuna tune or two?:
99 Year Blues
Let Us Get Together (Hot Tuna's version)
True Religion

A lot of these tunes are 3 chorders and seem like they would be in a style Dickey is used to playing and enjoying.

Why someone like Rick Rubin or another producer hasn't jumped on the chance to have Dickey record a cover album like so many others from his generation (Willie, CSN, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Gregg etc.) is mind boggling to me.
This goes for Dickey not playing ANY festivals. WHY does Dickey NOT play festivals?? Bonnaroo? All Good? 1,000 Lakes??? There are TONS of them.
A lot of potential here.

I'm thinking any of a number of J. J. Cale songs would work.

For something to let the guitar playing shine maybe "Magnolia" or "Sensitive Kind".

For something to rock out to, maybe "Cocaine" or "Call Me the Breeze".

"Runnin' With The Devil"

Personally I'd like to hear more tunes from the original Great Southern records or Pattern Disruptive. There were a lot of good tunes on there.

Duane'sTune
Blues Ain't Nothin'
Rock Bottom
Stone Cold Heart
Bougainvillea
Leavin' Me Again
Run Gypsy Run
Good Time Feeling
Out To Get Me
Nothing You Can Do
You Can Have Her
Back On The Road Again

Some people around here are obsessed with covers. I'd love to hear Dickey and/or ABB do more of their own music.

How about Into The Mystic? Or Dazed And Confused?
I'm sure they would be sic and "off the charts"!

Right now there is a tour going on with three gents entitled "The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue 2012" featuring Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald & Donald Fagen

How about Nelson, Betts & Fogerty?.......

"Three gitars & some good 'ol tunes"
