There are lots of other covers that should be retired for ABB or Gregg tunes. I agree !00% with you. I don't like the filler cover tunes at all, often they wreck the continuity of the show.

You can add to the list to get rid of That's What Love Will Make You Do, Needle and the Damage Done, Blind Willie McTell, All Along the Watchtower, Key to the Highway, The Weight, Dixie Down, Good Morning Little Schoolgirl, Why Does Love Have to be So Sad, Smokestack Lightning, all the cover songs that have NOTHING to do with the ABB.

There are so many unplayed ABB songs. If you want to give Gregg a vocal break have Warren sing a couple of the older ABB songs, some of which Dickey sang anyway.

I think there are a few that Gregg just plain doesn't like. Nevertheless and Win Lose or Draw haven't been played since '76. Even still, I would love to see more ABB originals make their way into the set. For example:

Please Call Home
Nobody Knows
Get on With Your Life
All Night Train
What's Done Is Done
Temptation Is a Gun
Firing Line

I am sooooooooo on this bandwagon. Nobody Knows is my first choice anytime a "what song would you like to hear live" type thread comes up. Although I have a few recordings of the 1999 versions and the music is ok but Dickey singing them wasn't quite the same. Warren would sing this one well though if Gregg couldn't do it or doesn't want to. I personally think Nobody Knows is one of the best ABB songs ever and probably the best since 1989. Back Where It All Begins is probably my second choice. I love Warren's solo in that song. Come on Warren, sing some Dickey tunes!

Nevertheless and Win Lose Or Draw would be great to hear. I have nothing against them covering old blues songs since they built their repertoire and reputation on tunes like Statesboro Blues, One Way Out, and Trouble No More but that's part of the blues tradition. Covering their peers is kinda ridiculous to me though. Skip the Van Morrison, Band, etc. I'm not interested in that stuff. I'd rather hear I'm No Angel than another version of The Weight.

Please Call Home
Nobody Knows
Get on With Your Life
All Night Train
What's Done Is Done
Temptation Is a Gun
Firing Line

Hell yes! to all of those.

I don't hold out any hope they'll play any songs that Dickey sang lead vocals on (aside from the rare version of Blue Sky at the Beacon or something), thus the songs I listed above are all Gregg-sung songs. There are also a handful of ABB originals from the '90s that Warren co-wrote and sung lead vocals on that never get played.

I'm 100% for Nobody Knows and BWIAB being revived.

But if GA was fluffing his lines in 1991, what hope is there now?!

Etc.

The next time I hope to hear these tunes (and others like them) they will be played by the artists that made them famous. Now before anybody chimes in with the old, "Well the early Allmans played nothing but covers"...Remember the music that put them on the map and the artists who penned most of those tunes. Blues artists, real honest to goodness bluesmen. C'mon man....

Elmore James
T-Bone Walker
Willie Cobb
Sonny Boy Williamson
McKinley Morganfield
Willie Dixon...

.....or heaven forbid, original compositions.

Unfortunately you are right. But I believe if he focused on getting a couple songs like nobody knows and firing line with some practice he could nail them once again.

I think so too, they just need to practice. Or he needs to keep the lyrics with him and go over them whilst traveling or hanging out at home in the dentist chair with his puppies.
