yeah, if I was Pres., I'd have requested RS to *not* give me the cover photo and give it to Levon. Maybe Obama doesn't have love for The Band

Ya this is too bad, actually rolling stone should be ashamed. I will the give Pres. some cred though,, he had the red white and blues thing, he spoke on video at a Dead/ABB show etc.....he is a lot more hip than a lot of Presidents.

The Gregg book exclusive is worth the price of admission itself. I read it last night and I could not put it down.

Enjoyed reading both the Levon Helm tribute and a piece of Gregg's new book. Btw, did anybody noticed that Gregg told on himself? Appears that Gregg was more deeply into a certain habit that he has previously has admitted to. Gregg has maintained over the years that he only snorted, and stayed away from needles. Cher finding his works pretty much shows Gregg was more deeply into it than he as previously admitted to (and one has to wonder if his Hep C might came from those days and habits?) Thanks God, that over the years he was able to get free of that (and his other) demons and still be with us and making the music that he still makes. Btw, don't think I'm being judgemental of Gregg as I myself "back in the day" was messing with the same sh*t and had gone beyond just snorting, and thankfully "with the grace of God and true friends" am way beyond that sort of thing and have been so for quite some time.

While it didn't come from Gregg himself, there was a Derek Trucks interview posted here maybe six months ago. Derek spoke of playing in Gregg's solo band when he was 14. Gregg was driving his car with Derek in the front seat next to him. Gregg pulled over to the side of the road, rolled up his sleeve and showed Derek his intricate array of track marks. "This is where I've been. Don't go down that road" is my closest approximation of what Derek said that Gregg told him. If anyone has that Derek interview I'd be interested in seeing it again. Derek said that really made an impression on him.

In the book Midnight Riders it mentions that Gregg would always wear long sleeve shirts around Cher, even to bed because of the track marks.

I'm glad you and Gregg got out of its grip.

That Gregg was deeper into "certain things" than he had previously admitted doesn't come as a great surprise. And I also wonder if this is the origin of the Hep C. Either way, he got clean, and thank God for him having that man to man with Derek.
And also glad for you turning the corner Brother Sibwlkr

There are also two pictures in this issue that include Derek Trucks.
