Just got back and Dickey was quite good. On his game, singing and playing. Very nice to see. Best I've seen him in quite a while. Took my 14 y.o. son, which was great to do.

You know, I did not write down a setlist and left a little early because he is in the middle of these big statewide standardized tests. I was laughing driving home at 11 about all the emails about getting him to sleep early.

First set started with High Falls and ended with Jessica...in between were blue sky, 7 Turns, You Don't Love Me, Statesboro, Ain't Nothing You Do...

Dickey and band were great tonight! I'll try to fill in the tunes Alan might have missed tomorrow.

Not gonna take the bait except to say I'm not a casual listener and a performance can be quite good without being caliber of 69.

When it's warranted,yes.

Fact is, Dickey hasn't been "quite good" in many years.
I disagree with you. And....Seen the Allman Brothers All star band lately?

Thanks Alan. Maybe the poster should do some research on you?

1st Set- High Falls, Statesboro, There Ain't Nothing You can do, You Don't Love Me, Franklin's Tower- Blue Sky, Jessica.
2nd Set- One Way Out, Seven Turns, Elizabeth Reed, Ramblin Man (Without the break about 2:15 worth of music).
There still is quite a difference in some of these old tunes when Dickey attacks them as he did last night. Andy Aledort and Duane Betts played significant roles but it was clearly Dickey's night (as it always should be). I haven't enjoyed a show as much as this one in a long time.

Glad you had the same reaction as me Ray.

We left during Liz Reed - not a comment on quality at all, just had to get my son home.

I'm surprised second set was that brief. Seven Turns was in first set. Maybe you missed something else?

Posted a pic of Jacob with dickey on my Facebook. You may have to "like" my Author page to see it. I'm not sure.

Interesting name, 69Duane. As I recall, the REAL Duane refused to say negative things about even Blood, Sweat & Tears (whose fans booed the original ABB) in recorded interviews, when he was drunk no less. Wouldn't do it.

There's a "credibility check".

fanfrom71, AlPaul, whoever else wants to participate:

There is a video of Ramblin' Man on Dickey's homepage, right there at the top. I would assume management selected this video as representative of the man's current offerings as a performer.

Please rate this performance on a scale from 1 to 10.

I'll start.

Is that clip from last night, or from when the band hadn't played together in quit awhile, or rehearsed together?

Elizabeth Reed sparkled tonight. Duane's lead in Elizabeth Reed was a significant highlight in the 2nd set. I sensed something special happening as soon as Dickey excitedly led the band onstage at the beginning of the show. Last night just had a different vibe that I haven't experienced at a Dickey show in awhile. I might have missed a song or two in the set list but in the scheme of things all that matters is that Dickey Betts and Great Southern created alot of smiles for a bunch of poeple last night.

hey 69 Alan Paul is not just a casual listener. I've been reading his stuff for years in Guitar World magazine.

It is great to read how Dickey shined Warms my heart, especially after all the Gregg looking weak news. Ying and yang I guess.

People, don't turn this into an ego pissing match. Keep love the focus, not agitation. If one ponders, the new isn't new, the man behind the curtain is one who thrives on causing chaos, love is not in the repertoire. Don't buy in, it's a tainted menu. Keep the high road, chaos is the goal of some. Black in their hearts, love left long behind on their path.

love to all and a fine day ahead

Some people know whether a show was good or not when they were not even there. Didn't see 69 mention being there.

The same thing happened during the beacon run this year. people able to tell what was good or bad without being there or hearing the show. Impressive. The best part is those that seem personally insulted by the whole thing even though they didn't attend nor spend a cent on the show.

Glad to hear that Dickey was on last night.

I was at my firend's place a few years back during the holiday season. This old dude picked up an acoustic guitar and started jammin with my friend who had done likewise.. I thought it was "quite good" but I was just a "casual listener" enjoying two world renowned musicians playin for fun with friends and family present. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and even a picture of some magical moment in time cannot express or capture anything remotley similar to actually being there when it happened. my .02

I am looking forward to Sat. night... can't wait.. but I always feel this way going to a DBGS show... I remember the old days of 72' 73' and look forward to what Dickey does these days.. to me it's all good, it is music , his music , his compositions and the band is really great with Andy A, Duane, PEDRO, Mike , Frankie and James...

Great to hear! Thanks for the report. That tone, man, that TONE! Literally no one sounds like Dickey. Y'all know that, but its worth repeating every so often because, as a musician/guitar player I know how *rare* it is to find a musician on any instrument that is a true individual. He's like B.B. King in that sense. Rock on, Dickey!

Great to hear he had a good show!!

I was thinking about him and his setlits the other day when I had Shades of Two World and Seven Turns in the car cd player. He does not mix the setlist up to much ,which is ok I guess. But he was written some songs off of those two releases that are very solid.
Nobody Knows,Bad Rain,Kind Of Bird,,Let Me Ride,Shine It On,Low Down Dirty Mean, others such as Change My way Of Living,Mean Woman Blues,Crazy Love ,Can't Take It With You and more. I know he has played some of those in the past.

He really has written some strong material and it would be nice to hear. I am not sure if it is becasue maybe Greg has sung some of those or co written with Warren, legal issues...not sure. But I think Dickey could have a nice little rotation of songs if he chose to do so and mix in a few covers.. But it's nice just to have him playing so I won't complain to much!!
