Oh My God.........a friend just turned me on to this, this morning. CHUCK CHUCK CHUCK CHUCK. And I cannot BELIEVE how good the sound is! Maybe the very best version of this tune I have ever heard.

Fantastic. I hope the band can get back to this form. Not that 2012 was bad really but they were balls out over the top in 2009 on a consistent basis.

3/28/2009 was a great show until Phil & Bobby sucked the life out of it in the 2nd set.

Amen to that. I blame Bobby more than Phil. Ratdog is the slowest rock band I've ever heard. It's like negative energy. I saw them open for ABB twice and i was nearly asleep by the time ABB came on.

Thanks Rob!...That was much needed here and brings back memories of my favorite period of the band. Chuck's musicianship brought this group of players to a new level back in '73> and it is nothing short of spectacular to see and hear this again. Obviously, Chuck's contributions make this what it is, but it also shows what can be done with songs from the past that should be played waaaay more than they are.... Please leave the Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and Zep stuff at the door and dig into your roots and the old catalog.... Give us more of this!

Wondering if Derek can coax CL to step out on stage and play with the TTB....wow

For those Chuck Leavell fans who didn't see my other thread, he is featured very prominently in the new documentary Basically Frightened: The Musical Madness of Bruce Hampton.

He talks at length about Bruce's 60s/70s band the Hampton Grease Band, as well as raving about how much he enjoyed playing with Col. Bruce and the Aquarium Rescue Unit.

It occurs to me that there may be a lot of Chuck Leavell fans who don't even know that he plays on the first ARU album. He sounds great as usual, but it seems like that is one of his lesser-known album credits. If you're a hardcore Chuck fan you might want to check it out. As always he makes everything better, and any musician who could hang with ARU in their heyday has my complete respect.

Yep, Chuck is the man

Count me in that group, thanks for the heads up. Most here are probably aware; but he was great as well on the Black Crowes acoustic version of "She talks to Angels"....

That is stunning. The band never sounded better. Gregg never sounded better, even at the end of the long Beacon run.
No band ever sounded better, imho.
Thanks for posting.

Chuck is "THE PERFECT FIT" for ABB. Wish he'd come home and play with the band full time. The best shows I've seen were when Chuck was stage left.

That version really is a dandy. I'll state the obvious, but to have someone able to hold his own with Warren's leads on a non-guitar instrument sure does add a lotta flavor to the mix.

The call and response between Warren and Chuck is awesome, and Gregg sang the sh!t out of it.
