Spending an afternoon off listening to the entire Cow Palace show.

Mind blowing.

Wow.

Discuss!

Truly one of the great ABB shows. Not just b/c of the sit-ins...CL/LW-era classic. It really doesn't get much better. Oh yeah, Jerry on Whipping Post Jam and Mtn. Jam is psychedelic heaven. Bett and Garcia were a great combo.

Really great show ! I liked the Boz Scaggs numbers. Garcia great on Whipping Post, but it would have been better if he had actually learned more of the song than that one riff. Sounded like a crazy crowd in there, I don't think I would have been too thrilled if I was standing where that clown lit a brick of firecrackers, indoors no less.

Just wondering, you guys know which versions of the tape you have, pre or post FM, etc.? There are a bunch of different ones out there

Dec. 31, 1973 is a classic.

I was just listening to the following night's show (Cow Palace Jan. 1, 1974)
yesterday. It had guests like John Lee Hooker, Buddy Miles, Elvin Bishop, Steve Miller
and Charlie Daniels.

I prefer my Allmans with two guitars, always have, but over the past few years I have developed more respect for this lineup of the band, and this show is one reason why.

The 5/1/73 Archive release was another show that opened my eyes to the power of this lineup.

As great as Chuck is, that harmony guitar sound is why I fell in love with the ABB in the first place, so this will never be my favorite era of the band. However, if anybody out there feels the same way, don't dismiss this lineup entirely. I missed out on a lot of good music that way.

Too funny
I was gonna post this exact thing the other day...i had just re-discovered this concert and was so moved by it I thought I'd post something...then i though...nah...nobody would even care. THANKS for affirming that I'm not crazy. I think what I like about this show the most is the fender Rhodes I guess chuck is playing...man I freakin LOVE rhodes piano and this concert is rife with it. Any folks out there that dont have this one should find it and download...its a real GEM!

If memory serves me correctly, this is the show some old hippie turned me on to that changed my tune regarding this era of the ABB.

............and thanks to Charlie, for name dropping the guests on the following evening. Gonna dig through the hard drives and see if that is buried within someplace.

If you don't have these shows you can listen to them for free on Wolfgang's Vault. I can't access it from work but I pulled this link from my phone: www.wolfgangsvault.com/the-allman-brothers-band/concerts/cow-palace-decembe r-31-1973-set-2.html

You can find the rest of this show plus the January 1, 1974 show and Winterland 1973 too.
