I was listening to a podcast from NPR's World Cafe and this was the band the was featured.

This is the type of sound I was hoping for when I heard Susan and Derek were forming a band.
Kinda that Soul Stew vibe. Looks like these guys beat them to the punch and nailed it pretty good. . TTB ought to listen to these guys!

I heard one of their songs on satellite radio and meant to check them out further, but forgot. Thanks for the reminder! I liked what I heard.

Alabama Shakes are playing a sold out show at World Cafe Live in Philly on Monday night and you can listen to it live. This should be the liink: http://thekey.xpn.org/2012/04/05/listen-to-alabama-shakes-perform-live-on-m onday-night-at-world-cafe-live/ It should also be available via the TunedInRadio app at WXPN. They usually archive their stuff, so if it's available, I'll post that link here as well.

Dave's show is on too late for me. Anyone know of a link to their performance? Thanks!

I've listened to the album twice and will dig it a third time today...and maybe a fourth!

Yeah........ Dave had that look he only gets with a few performers, Warren Z & Blind Melon are 2 that come to me at this moment......

One of those , " I don't know how to describe it but I know this is special " Kinda like when I saw Derek T at 13 yrs old....

I like it quite a bit. Rootsy but fresh at the same time.

Say what you will about the state of the music industry, there are plenty of new bands mixing genres and putting out great stuff.

I saw that as well. Add a tip of the hat to this web site for the heads up about the Letterman appearance. I had seen their name mentioned here, so as I was channel surfing last night, noticed their name on the Dave roster and tuned in.....

With just that listen they reminded me of CCR.....roots, rhythm & groove...I want to hear more, hear some individual talent...

They were excellent at the Bowery the other night. Totally dug them. They could have let some of the songs breath with some more instrumental portions but it was a great set. Some slower softer tunes, some nice mid tempo tunes and some rockers. Just the balance I like. And Brittany, she can SING!

I bought the CD on Wednesday and have played it several times Wed and Thurs, although I skip most of the songs towards the end of the disc. I just haven't warmed up to them yet, but the first 6 or 7 I can play over and over. I will be trying to download a show soon. Been telling others about them too.

I liked their first album, but absolutely hate the one that just came out. Brittany Howard's vocals on the second album do nothing for me. Too produced, and the soul and grit of the first album is missing from almost every song.

What I've heard from the new one I like. It hit # 1 Billboard if that means anything?

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/04/29/alabama-shakes-hits-no-1/

I like her live performances the best. So I wouldn't worry about commercial release sounding too commercial. I'm glad for them and I hear the band has really taken off musically.

I'm not worried about it sounding commercial, that's fine, to me it just sounded bad. I bought it, listened to it twice and traded it to a local used CD store. It's still burned on my computer, so I may revisit it later.

It's a completely different sound than their first album. I read in Relix that this album is more of the sound that they are looking for and it might shock fans of the first album, if that is the case then I'll just listen to the first album. To me it just sounds like a complete left turn (and not a good one) from their first album.

It hit # 1 and the reviews are good, so I'm obviously in the minority. I feel like they buried Brittany's voice which to me is the appeal of the band. Lot of sounds on the new album, but to me there are not many songs... just a collection of dissonant sounds. It almost sounds like the even autotuned her vocals on a couple of tracks.

I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to see them live, but the new album just wasn't for me.
