Last night's show without Gregg brought back a comment that I made long ago about after the ABB runs its' course.

First hope Gregg is OK and gets and stays healthy.

Last night is an example of what the Haynes/Trucks Band could be like. Seeing as these guys are used to having a few projects at once, it would be great to see them continue once the ABB calls it a day.

Count me in for anything this guys might do, I love Gregg, and I think he is one of the best singers ever, but to be quite honest , Warren and Derek are as big, if not bigger, attractions for me, this "hypothetical" band (I'm not sure if they would like to keep this going) would kick serious ass, it would still be the best band around.

While it would be an incredibly entertaining show, I doubt they will.

I think that outside of ABB both Warren and Derek Have their own vision for music.

I am quite happy with Mule, WHB and TTB.

Derek has mentioned a project with Jimmy Herring when they both have the time.

This post completely ignores the contributions of Marc, Butch, Jaimoe and Oteil.

There is more to music than just Guitar solos.

It isn't really the Allman Brothers Band without Gregg but being there last night I will tell you that these world class musicians brought their A game and played an awesome show. I want to see Gregg back and healthy but I would go to see what I experienced last night any time.

It would be interesting to me to see

Derek
Warren
Otiel
Marc

with Danny Louiis and Matt Abts and Kofi and Ronrico.

Even if they only did Delaney and Bonnie and Derek and the Dominos material.

Jaimoe, Butch, Marc, Warren, Derek, Oteill and Bruce Katz or Kofi Burbridge would be a terrific band that I would not hesitate to see often. My first option would be for Gregg to get back to full strength. Right now my concern is Gregg and his health. Hep C, Liver transplant, Hernias, Back pain....
We need to pray hard for Gregg. I don't think there are many musicians who would be able to gut out 3 hour shows like Gregg did over the last 3 weeks with the medical issues he is currently going thru. Even with the issues Gregg's dealing with right now he is singing better than he did from 79-81 and 95-96.

I hope Gregg gets some rest and then regains a lot of his strength. But, as to the question at hand, I am on board. Keep it going. Maybe they could just call it the "Brothers" if they don't want to call it the Allman Brothers Band. I would love to hear this music continue to be played in the manner that this band plays it. I hope Warren, Derek, Oteil and Mark will continue to do that (at least periodically) long after the others no longer can.

With all due respect to Warren/Derek there is a magic between Jimmy/Derek that nothing else matches. On youtube there is a short clip of them playing in 2009 (I think) in Atlanta. A comment reads "master and student with one mind" or something of the sort.

Now this would be a great band , you gotta through Susan in there too though , I allways wonder what will happen after they call it quits and im sure Derek and Warren will work together Hell they are the Duane and Dickey of the 21st century

Wow very serious.
I didn't ignore anyone or anything. Never mentioned who else may or may not be involved. Just playing a fantasy game of what I think would be a great pairing which isn't a stretch I guess.

I didn't say that the Mule, DTB or TTB should stop either. What is another side project for these guys?

As for there being more than guitar solos to life, there is sex but I don't think of either Warren or Derek that way.

Funny that you would say that and mention a project with Herring. Now that would be solos. Warren adds the option of vocals and writing songs with words but a band with Jimmy and derek would work too.

I have just seen the pairing of Derek and Warren so many times dating back to when the DTB would open for the Mule and Derek would sit in. I think they should keep it going after the ABB guys call it a day if they ever do.

Yeah Man!
The Grateful Dead Has Had Some Different "Reunion" Lineups. I'm Going To See Them (*FURTHIR*)
This Summer. Who Would Have Thought That They Could Go On Without Jerry?
It's NOT The Same, But I'm Glad They Still Play
Maybe Even Gregg's Son Too.
The Good, No GREAT News Is That Gregg Has Said That He Will "Play Till He Drops" Or Something Like That.........

I hope they continue to do something, being the "Brothers" or "Wanee Family Band" or something...even if its just an annual Wanee and a couple Beacon dates. I really hope they keep Wanee goin for years to come, with all the side projects. Bring in Jimmy and Jack and Chuck...and other regulars Ron, Luther, Bruce, etc. The 'family' alone has enough talent and bands to have this festival every year. On that note, I sure am looking forward to Derek and Jimmy's band one day. I'm still holding out for the 4 headed monster jam (Jack, Derek, Warren, and Jimmy). I thought it might happen in Nashville a couple years ago when Panic was there, maybe one day.

First off, I LOVE the idea of them continuing in some form - even part-time - as a vital and vibrant musical ensemble when Gregg decides he just can't do it anymore. I also don't care what they call themselves - obviously it won't be called The Allman Brothers Band any longer...doesn't matter what the band name is....just play!

Just think of the musical possibilities when they no longer have to really worry about setlists or simply continuing The ABB's legacy any longer. The core of the band now would be Warren, Derek, Oteil and Marc - If Butch and Jaimoe still wanted to play with them on occasion - Great! They could still do annual Beacon run if they wanted just on a smaller scale - say 5 or 6 shows rather than 10 to 15 shows. They could still have a revolving door of guest muscians from the world of Jazz, Blues, Rock, World Music etc. Hell, they could still do a few choice ABB tunes if they choose - end even songs from the Mule's and Derek's catalog of music. Fans won't be expecting an Allman Brothers show so anything goes! They could play "My Favorite Things" for 20 minutes if they want - which would make me very happy! Keyboard players would line up for this gig!...and horn players too. All I know is these players sound so damn great together it would be a shame if they didn't continue in some form for a few shows a year. Warren, Derek and Oteil are now like the Holy Trinity of music on the front line of that stage and they really need to keep it going as long as possible. Their chemistry is off the charts. I like it - a lot!

I refuse to consider any variation of The Allman Brothers band without Gregg! We have TTB, we have WHB. Gregg will play until he just can't do it anymore. I can't see him NOT playing. I DO hope he gets the rest and care he needs to stay healthy.

I like most folks was disappointed that Gregg couldn't make it but Sunday's show was an incredible night of music. I can't call it the Allman Brothers Band though. If I had to give Sunday's line up a name I'd go with the Beacon Theatre All Star Band.

As much as I think we would love to see a tweaked line up playing ABB music, I can't imagine the thought of them going on without Gregg. I sure hope he gets himself fixed up, healed up and healthy again so these guys can keep making great music for us to enjoy!

It really is sad to see people here looking towards the next step when the band is still on this step and discussing at nearly disgusting length 'errors' or 'flubs' that are occuring......fact of the matter is, nobody knows what will happen when it ends and considering the core 3 already have some serious projects rolling there's a good chance that they don't continue together on the reg.....we're not going to get much more of this, why not ENJOY what we are getting while we're still getting it.

Just my $.02.....I understand alot of the points made, and as a guitarist, I don't entirely disagree with them.....just pointing out how focused on the negative this place seems to have gotten. It used to be just a much happier place and the music is the reason.

I am guilty of pointing out flaws that I have seen in shows the past couple of yrs, mostly on Greggs part. It isn't to be cruel or negative but just pointing out observations that I saw. I guess that seeing alot of shows & 99.9% of them being at least VERY GOOD, you tend to notice when they're not. I love this band. They've been my favorite since I first heard Brothers & Sisters back in the day. I first saw them in 79 & have been supporting them ever since.
I hope that Gregg takes his time, gets healthy, & comes back strong. If that means canceling shows to do it, then so be it. I know that he wants to be out on the stage, but he really needs to rest & get himself together. He's had a tough couple of yrs and it shows.
As for the rest of the band, I'll go see any of them when i can. All of them are some of , if not the best in the business.
Long live the ABB & ABB family of music minds.
