quote: acoustic sets ... cool
Agreed....
If the crowd could shut the phuck up,put down the cellphones and control themselves this would work....
I still have nightmarish memories of Gregg behind the baby grand doing Oncoming Traffic while people were screaming over his attempts to perform...how sad....how rare that we'd get to hear Gregg do that song only to have it killed by the drunken big mouths in the beacon....I look forward to hearing a tape where,at the very least, the crowd noise will be minimized and these acoustic sets can be enjoyed....
Warren's description of their plans this year sound very interesting and fun....but to avoid the costs and the noise makers in the beacon(no not the band!) I look forward to hearing the tapes....too bad there's no moogis....a real loss.... |

there was always something magical when Dickey used to bring out the acoustic and have a seat at one of the two stools. Hope it is as equally good with Warren and Derek. ____________________ |

always enjoyed the acoustic set although I do think it takes away from the 2nd set intensity. Psyched though because I dont think they have done a full fledged acoustic set since Pearson.
Dusting off instrumentals that have not been played in awhile......... True Gravity??????

Of course the actual quote about instrumentals was "And also bringing back some of the instrumentals that haven’t gotten played in the last couple of years" so I won't get overly excited.

When I read about the acoustic sets this morning I got really excited. I love to hear Warren and Gregg on acoustic. That Red Rocks performance they did several years ago was killer. I can't wait to see what they have planned for this Beacon run. |

over the past 8 years there have been several events that included acoustic sets.....one with Elvin Bishop.........several others.
I think it kills the energy........so at The Beacon a two song acoustic max IMHO.

The first time I saw the band was 1992 and they did an acoustic set. It was great. I've been hoping for ages they would do it again. I hope they do some cool stuff on the 21st since that's the only one I'm seeing. I'm really pissed about no Moogis now. Damn. ____________________ Do not panic!

Warren says that him and gregg have been writing songs alot in the last 10 years. When are they going to do something with them?

I have mixed feelings on the acoustic stuff. Depending what it is. Remember the few times I saw them do this at Beacon I loved hearing Melissa, Midnight Rider, These Days...but there were some others that just took the energy out of the place. Of course that kicks right back in once they plug in regardless...
As for the instrumentals you can bet one is Instrumental Illness (one of my least favorite but it's okay). Be nice to get a High Falls but not sure how likely that is.
Looking forward to the reworked Hot 'Lanta. If it's anything like what they did with No One to Run With, Rocking Horse, Revival...it should be sweet!
Can't wait till I'm there on the 24th! I'll take the "Eat a Peach" in full that night please but think that will be saved for the 25th.
And Little Martha > Blue Sky puts a smile on my face anyday.... ____________________ The Good Times Don't Fade Away |

Do they get as crazy as to try something like a Liz Reed acoustic...that was done MANY years ago. Only once to my knowledge. ____________________ The Good Times Don't Fade Away |

Liz Reed was done acoustically at least twice, 3/20/98 with Jack Pearson and the IRSA benefit show that appears on first set, which is sometime in 1992.
Count me as one more vote for True Gravity They can never play Illness again as far as I'm concerned, but it would be a tragedy for this lineup to never tackle True Gravity. |
