I know this has been alluded to through anecdotes and such in other threads, but where would be the best place to be outside the Beacon after a show in order to catch a band member to get an autograph? Thanks in advance!

Thank you ABB -- & safe travels to all going to the shows -- will be keen to hear all about how they're sounding/what they're playing etc.
There's not another band on the face of the planet like the ABB -- Gregg, Butch, Jaimoe et al -- you guys rock

The Beacon Theater is on Broadway between 74th & 75th Streets. Right around the corner on 75th Street there is an door that the band members use to enter and exit the theater. It is best to wait there after the show if you want autographs. Some of the boys will stop, chat and sign, others will not. Be prepared to wait awile after the show to see them. There are usually about 25 people or so waiting, so you will not be alone and might even have some fun with all the brothers and sisters who will be waiting with you!

Try to be where the crowds, are not. Find the tour bus...

Great, thanks! Will this door be near the red truck I always see parked outside the theaters for ABB shows?

The tour bus is usually no where near the Beacon after a show as most members get into large SUVs. Derek and Susan walked away from the venue in the past but may be getting too big to do that much these days. Follow what others have stated and don't forget the after shows too.....small clubs are usually easier to get autographs at. Good luck, have fun, and always say thanks

Yea, the guys don't take a tour bus to the Beacon. Warren lives in the city, I assume the rest of them get a hotel for several weeks. They arrive and leave by black SUV's. Warren and Derek I have seen sign stuff before the show. The other members usually only sign after the show, especially Gregg. It took me a couple years to get Gregg's autograph so don't be discouraged if you don't get anything signed. Warren and Derek are usually very friendly and sign for lots of people though.

If you are facing the front of the Beacon its the street just to the left. You'll see the barracade that the security sets up and about 20-30 people outside waiting.

I posted this in another thread but it might help:

I have had great success after the show. Gregg, Warren & Derek will sign and chat the most, Butch will not, Jaimoe might if he's feeling up to it. I have seen Marc only sign for a few minutes once in a while. I have yet to see Oteil after a show. The stage door is located around the corner from the Beacon. I don't remember the number of the street but it's in the 70's (75th - edit) and goes one way west bound (only one way out). Come out the front of the Beacon after the show, walk to the right, go around the corner. There are often 20 people or more hanging around waiting.

Gregg, bless his heart, seems to go to the women so bring a woman (lol). He's been much friendlier to my wife and even told her a bit about his tattoos. Warren has had to be dragged away by management. he will chat and loves feedback on the show and has always responded kindly to my guitar questions. Derek is somewhere in between Gregg and Warren as far as how how long he'll hang out. I guess it just depends on how they feel. After the show at the Tower in Philly last fall Gregg signed for a while even though he obviously had a bad cold. Outside the Beacon, just be prepared to wait for a while. good luck!

Edit - No tour bus since they are in residence for a while.

If you are going to any of the post-show concerts, don't forget your markers and pens. I have had pretty good success at places like the Iridium, BB King's and elsewhere. Good luck, have fun and say thanks

They don't use a tour bus, that's Dickey style! They arrive in Land Cruisers, and usually they do not arrive all together, adding to the excitement. You will see a line of people behind some wooden baricades near the door. (Those are the people on the guest list, but you can hang out there too and nobody will bother you for wanting to get an autograph or take pictures).

i took gregg a silver dollar i had been wanting to give him for years i got to go back stage friday afternoon and hung out with farmer for a while and gave it to greggs tech david, i had a couple albums i wanted signed he said hang out after the show but i ran into shank earlier in the evening and he heard about the silver dollar and told me he would get them signed after the show. it was cold and gregg came out signed a couple then came over to me and signed mine and thanked me for the silver dollar and said he liked it it was a standing liberty and wished he had a 100000 of them i thanked him for playing midnight rider and if he ever got down on his luck he had one more silver dollar he laughed and thanked me again and got in the van so he signed maybe for four people it was cold and i don't think he was feeling that well. so if your lucky you might get something signed, jaimoe came out got in the van then got out and signed for a few people, butch just walked by everyone said nothing and got in the van didnt see warren but ran into derek before the show walking down the street didn't have anything for him just exchanged a few words such a nice person and his guitar playing is getting out of this world, 2 nights of great music the best band in the world
