I'm bummed about the lack of Moogis this year. it was the highlight of spring for the last 3 years.

This will be my fourth Beacon roadtrip. 3-20 and 3-21. Can't wait. This is about the only big thing I treat myself to each year. Taking an Eat A Peach lp jacket from 1972. Still in pretty good condition considering the age. Hope to get some autographs on it for a good friend.

I think the Beacon thread needs to be killed and brought back here. With MOOGIS the server got overwhelmed on show nights. Won't happen any more with mobile setlist updates. Butch may be a d**K but I sure am going to miss those nights watching on my computer and chatting here

No doubt the shows will be packed but the lack of chatter here is worthy of discussion.

I think the band is better now except for a few hearing/timing/health issues of Gregg than say 2004 when this place would be jumping.

Could it be that the chats have moved to facebook ?

The bad economy and huge increase in prices have prevented many fans from attending?

Maybe people think the music has declined ? I disagree as stated above but is there something to be said about the set lists being stale and lack of new tunes ? I always felt the shows were packed with more casual fans than super fans and the majority of people just want to hear the old stuff any way....

Is the crowd here just older /mellower and not as enthusiastic or has the big crack down in security at the beacon over years affected the attitude?

What does everyone think ?

Well facebook has defintely taken alot of people away from this site unfortuntely and I think that is the biggest thing. I dont think its the only reason but at least for many of the fine brotherds and sisters I know from our great community, most of them have ventured over to facebook.

Hey it is what it is, does not damper my excitement for another great run The rest of us still here should let ur freak flag fly and start to get amped up!

I think because the Allman Brothers don't have the urge to write new music + Play it live and moogis's death is the cause of lack of interest.

I wonder if Gregg still has it, high ticket prices and expensive gas keeps me from going. Somehow I made it to 4 Beacon shows in 2009 with the help of a friend. Wow, that will probably never happen again sadly. That was an amazing time. Except for the cavity searches at the door.

I have gone to ABB shows since 1969 but came late to computers and smartphones.I find this site's pre-Beacon run chatter and frequent at-the-show-updates/comments terrifically enhance my enjoyment of the entire experience. I feel sad that the former has dimineshed so and hope that at least the during- the- shows'- postings will continue.I enjoy being made aware of the tiny detail, guests' backrounds and all the info others give to me when I may not be able to see/know what is going on in real time. Thanks to all that contribute to making my ABB shows even greater!
I do see a difference this year regarding the site's Beacon chatter. I can only guess as to what I think the 2 reasons are. Specifically as to the Beacon run I think the reservation of many good seats for big "packages" that cost over $200 is a shame and totally changes the picture of the scene. It was discouraging for so many to find the tickets out of reach and reserved for that kind of money.Rich fans are getting preference over working class fol kand changes the vibe big time both before the shows and AT THE SHOWS. Going to a show requires taking the next day off to truly enjoy the last hours without worry, travel time/expense and all sorts of time and money plannings. That's totally worth it to see ABB but the extra hassle/disappointment of trying to score a ticket and the offense of these VIP class divisions takes atoll on the joy potential for lots of folks.
The only other hypothesis I have is based on more personal experience.I have posted less than the past, both re: the Beacon and during the year because there seems to me to be a insults sometimes to what is only a fellow fan expressing their opinoin.
Just one example: recently a fan who will be a first time Beacon attendee asked for some tips on how to enjoy their stay while coming to NYC. Someone responded that the fan should take a train to the South Bronx and wandering away from the subway station for a few blocks. When a kindly response from a 3rd fan posted asking why they would suggest such a dangerous thing to a fan who was merely asking for help there was a response utilizing a curse at them. I couldn't believe this immature and hostile behavior. It certainly deterred me from giving a reply on that thread. That is a real example of why a devoted fan like me has stopped all but the occasional post.I am kind and respectful but I have had disturbiing bashes at me for prior questions/postings of my own.Angry disrespectful bullies to me are a big reason there is a decline in posting.
I have totally avoided Facebook,Twitter and all the other computer stuff .In part because I feel a fan site has more privacy but I will check out Facebook now that it has come to my attention that there is ABB postings there.
Love, love and more love to you brothers and sisters.

Well said, Lovelight.

While a fan since the mid 70's and a heavy user since the mid 90's, the peak of this board, for me, was 2006 - 09. Some great get-togethers: sweeties party, ATL Chastain shows with the group pic that ironically was shaped like a mushroom, and Smilin Jack's RR parties.
One more sleep for me, then on a flight to NYC. Bowlive (Soulive) on Thursday, Beacon on Fri & Sat! Taking a Beacon newbie from Arizona. He will be blown away. I'll post my $0.02 the morning after the shows.
Cheers.

Facebook is evil and they should get their asses back here.

I'm with Dave though as it's still a great place. Can't wait for the setlists so we can all fight about them.

Health keeps me away this year but everyone have fun and stay safe! Look for to the lists and reviews. Warren said there will be some suprises but wasn't giving up info. Just a big smile but when doesn't he?

Once again I agree 100%. Mark Zuckerberg is the Devil Incarnate and should be drawn and quartered for accelerating and exploiting this narcissistic culture we now live in. At some point justice will prevail....

Sorry to hear about your health issues, CM. I hope you are feeling better and are on the mend.
