JodJamitt , no Dickey onstage at the Grammy Lifetime
Achievement ceremony ! If ever there was a time to
finally let things go , and just be bros .... well , who am
I to say , just a fond happy thought .
Anyway , Galadrielle , Brittany & Berry , Chuckie Leavell
and all the current band were there . I hope the true
spirit of the band does truly endure , my God , you guys
were and still are the greatest band around . Dickey ,
old boy , you did get a few mentions in the speeches ,
so , you are still thought of by many . Play on , boys ,
play on .

Unless Dickey was sick or ill there is no excuse for him not to show after posting he would be there on his own website for months. If anything in this particular case he let his fans down. He could have been gracious and accepted what he had earned as a founding member and given thanks to Duane. The other original members didn't say anything about him and he didn't have to say anything about them. He should have been there though unless sick IMO. The ABB are a big part of his legacy and he should have been there to accept the kudos he deserves as a founding member.

I understand DB no showed. He was most certainly invited/asked to attend. Obviously he's got his demons.

So, the real question is, and inquiring minds want to know, why didn't Dickey show?

In the other thread, I wanted to say all along "it ain't gonna happen" ... but didn't want to be a bummer. (now I'm just being a "told ya so-er! lol)

Too bad though ... I hope he is doing well.

They are children. Countries have fought wars and made peace. Why can't this band. Nonsense!! The Grammy is an honor and dickey should have been a part of it. I am very sad about this

He hasn't been there for the past 10+ years, why would he feel compelled to show up now
The Grammys are nice but it's no be all or end all -- the Grammys don't make any difference -- it begins & ends w/the tunes we've loved for decades, Grammys or no
I love the ABB, & Dickey Betts is a big reason why, just as it is for all their fans

Then why announce on his website months in advance that he was gonna be there getting his fans excited only to disappoint them??? He should have just said he was honored but wasn't gonna show.

I'm sure he had every good intention at first...but why create a situation that was probably just going to be awkward or worse for all involved -- the Allman Brothers have not exactly been cordial in their public comments about Dickey over the years...

If you look at the posts on his website, many of them state, so what (in effect) -- not everyone is disappointed by his not being there

I'm sure Dickey had his reasons. Maybe he thought he could do it and just decided he didn't want to. That's his right. I'm sorry he didn't make it but I can honestly say I can understand a little bit if he just couldn't do it.

History aside, bad blood recognized...It's one thing to snub your fellow band mates, but Dickie pissed in the faces of his fellow band members, AND the Grammy members that voted him in for a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. I don't recall a single nominated or winning artist, that stated "the Grammy's don't make any difference". I had hoped this battle would eventually end, but after posting that he would attend, then not being there, I could care less if they ever mend fences. Oh, by the way, Dickie also pissed in the faces of a lot of his fans. I felt the splash.

I'm kinda bummed.

...but its all the fkn air time that Butch Trucks bogarts that compounds the frustration.

I mean, how many times do we have to hear the same story about Butch admitting he was a big p*ssy and Duane had to undress him in order to get him to play well.

It's not like Duane reached in, turned the switch inside you, and you went on to pen "Blue Sky, Jessica, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, etc. etc. All it did was get you to beat on your drum a little harder.

Face it, Butch wanted Dickey out the most, got his way, and now the band is led by a blow-hard math teacher. Wasn't he supposed to be over in France by now? Oh wait, He found out France is way more f*cked up at this point than the US. F*kn joker.

Gets up there and rambles for 15 minutes...and the best he can come up with is a reference to the "N-Word"? I was embarrassed for him.

I hate Butch Trucks.

I thought Butch's "N-word" reference was very poor taste especially for an award ceremony.

Why is that offensive? Jaimoe referred to "playing with those "white boys". I wasn't the least offended by either comments. I thought Butch's refererence, and refusal to say the "N" word, was a reflection on "the times" when this story happened. However, his following comments about how much he had learned over the years from Jaimoe, his friend, simply showed his own ability to break through boundaries, stereotypes, & predjudices. IMHO.

No.
I did not see the online vid of them.
I assume it was online.

No, BT saying Nig ger or even referring to , lets just put it out there, cheap. Unintelligent.
No class. Ingornat cracker would be a good reference for him. One good turn deserves another. Poor White trash with a bit of money. No matter context he tried to explain it in, wow, what a way to slap Jaimoe , GA's longtime friend Chank who , if he wanted to, cut his ties with GA and write his own nice , sweet little book about Gregg Allman and TABB and he knows all the lil bits of it ALL, get a nice good payday , but he won't . BT's remark was awful to TABB 's Black American fans in the face and to the group of industry insiders there.
What a jackass!!!
I noticed BT's wifey seems a bit darker. She looks Hispanic.
