Got one of those daily calendar dealies for Xmas so for Wharfie, Sandman, OTF, et al I figured I better use it so here we go:

This Day In Baseball

January 12, 1983

Baltimore Oriole third baseman Brooks Robinson and San Francisco Ginats pitching ace Juan Marichal are elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Robinson, who gained entrance primarily on the merits of his glove, also drove in 1,357 RBIs during his career. Marichal won 20 or more games in six different seasons as the ace of the San Francisco Giants staff.

Marichal's in the hall and he beat the crap outta some guy with a bat! Charlie Hustle gambled and lied about it. I guess it's the lying part that will keep him out now. Juan Marichal was my favorite when I was a kid. I can still see that incredibly high kick that was part of his delivery. I got to see him and the Say-Hey Kid several times against the Braves of yore in the old Atlanta (Fulton Cty.) Stadium. Especially from the cheap, centerfield seats.

Okay. Chad. And If Marichal's name come up again, I promise not to spell it with a "k".

One thing I noticed right away that drives me nuts is the reference to Brooks driving in 1,357 RBI's. How do you drive in a run batted in? Sort of like going to an ATM machine. I've yet to figure out what the hell an automated teller machine machine is.

That was John Roseboro - class act; when asked what Marichal's punishment for whacking him should be, his reponse was, "5 minutes alone in a locked room with me!"

This is John Roseboro catching Don Drysdale:

Lee, it's in GIF format.

Ed hit a fly ball to the wall, which the Dodger outfielder misjudged. Ed wheeled around the infield past Maury Wills and started sliding for home just past third base. Roseboro, terrified at the sight of four horseshoes coming at him, fled the plate, climbed up the backstop, and perched there cowering. Inside-the-park four-(oat)bagger for Ed!

So what is Mr. Ed's batting average? 1.000 percent? Why isn't he in the Hall of Fame? And did Pete Rose ever bet on Mr. Ed?

Are the Ginats still playing? When did they become the Giants?

Marichal's disgusting beating of John Roseboro

Sandy Koufax risks one of history's greatest left arms to help his battery-mate.

oh great. one of the engineers i work with had one last year. when i mentioned i was into baseball, everyday he would give me the page. 9 times out of 10 i didnt have time to read them (you know, busy posting here and all). i was glad when he didnt get one this year, because frankly i don't care who was traded for who way back in 1945.

i got a Dilbert calendar this year for Xmas, now this jackass automatically expects me to walk every day's pages around to him. NOT. it's already the 12th and he looms around my desk asking for the weekend pages....i offered him my trashcan and told him to have at it.

i guess this makes me a bad person.

lee, not that i mean to tread on your thread. have at it....! i just had to express my feelings about those daily baseball triva calendars.

i doubt my Dilbert will translate as well so here it goes:

The Motivation Fairy shows up in that little baldheaded guys cubby.

"If you work hard, you will gain the respect of your peers" the fairy says.
the little bald head guy says: "If i avoid the stress of hard work, i will out-live my peers"
and the motivatioin fairy, looking flustered asks "Hard work will kill me?"
and the bald headed guy says "If your Lucky".

Hey now Lee -

An ATM machine is where you go to use your PIN number.

Hall of Fame manager Joe McCarthy dies in Buffalo, New York. McCarthy managed his teams to nine pennants during his 24-year career and amassed a .615 winning percentage. He was the skipper of the Yankees when they won four consecutive World Series from 1936 to 1939.

It's Rush Limbaugh's birthday as well. I don't know what this all means.

That would make Jan. 12 the Day of the Windbag.

OK - January 13th's Dilbert:

The Motivation Fairy is fluttering around in the little bald guy's cubby.

the little bald dude says: "It seems like your job isnt very rewarding"
and the motivation fairy says: "vision....getting....blurry"
and the little bald dude says: "Long Hours. No Raises. No Cubicle!"
and then the motivation fairy says: "Hair...coming out in clumps"

next frame you see the little motivational fairy flying away, but this tiime he looks like the little bald dude and he says "He's very good".

Hmm...Well, since I can't come by your cubicle on a daily basis, I guess all I can do is sent you an email and a PM. Daily. Okay, there's only one per weekend so almost daily.
