Had no idea the Girl Scout movement was so wise and forward thinking. Good for them!...... Assuming this Conservative attempt to discredit the Girl Scouts is true of course. ____________________ You get SOMETHING out of it every night!- Mike "Pickles" Hale

Nope, no daughter. If I did have, I'd be delighted if she wanted to join the Girl Scouts. ____________________ You get SOMETHING out of it every night!- Mike "Pickles" Hale

I have a daughter who is a Girl Scout, my wife is the troop leader. Rest assured, there is no talk of abortions or trannys at any of their meetings. ____________________ "Live every week like it's Shark Week." - Tracy Jordan |

Both my daughters were girls scouts. It reinforced their acceptance of people different from them. ____________________

I thought they were just supposed to teach them to be responsible good citizens. Why are they bringing in political and sex education agendas? Aren't those things better left to the families to teach their children what is right/acceptable?

My daughters were scouts and I was a troop leader. We never talked about the issues listed in the propaganda posted about cookie sales. We encouraged the girls to be good and honest people and to respect others. No controversy there. ____________________ Sometimes we can't choose the music life gives us - but we damn sure can choose how we dance!

I ordered two boxes already.
We got two deer behind the house of the scout.
They didn't want any meat.
I'll buy cookies and we'll hunt behind their house next year.
I buy the mints anyways.
I also keep them in the freezer. ____________________ Hittin' The Web::Hugh Duty Memorial Giveaway has begun!

As one who has been involved in the cookie sales....a disillusioned participant by the way.....let me say that you can go down to Dollar General and purchase their mint thin cookies for about a dollar and a half and they're as good if not better than those sold by the Girl Scouts. I have issues with companies using child labor to hawk their products. Unless something major has changed, the girl scouts actually selling the products receive a very small portion of the proceeds. ____________________ Sometimes we can't choose the music life gives us - but we damn sure can choose how we dance!

I believe it is Girl Scouts of the USA that chooses to sell cookies as a fundraiser, not an evil cookie monster forcing children into selling its wares.

I'll just speak to what I found when I was heading up the cookie drive. The actual troop selling the cookies made a small fraction of the actual price of the box. The national organization got a larger percentage and the cookie company got the rest. We sold several dozen cases of cookies and made maybe a couple hundred dollars for the troop. I figured then it was a great way to move a product and it was one of the reasons I pulled my kids out of scouting and resigned as a troop leader. I stand by my statement. ____________________ Sometimes we can't choose the music life gives us - but we damn sure can choose how we dance!

They have awards for the girls who sell the most cookies but not in proportion to the amount of money they bring in for the drive. I don't buy the cookies.....I donate directly to the troop. I know that way they get all the money. And as I said...for a dollar and a half you can buy mint thins at the Dollar General that I like even better. ____________________ Sometimes we can't choose the music life gives us - but we damn sure can choose how we dance!

But Ann ... are those Dollar General cookies really the same as the Girl Scout version? (I've had to go cold turkey on the Thin Mints...)

^Well that certainly justifies the price difference!
I do not know about the rest of you, but most of my GS cookies come from moms and aunts selling at the ofc. I can only remember one time a real GS knocked on my door selling them.

I see your point. Perhaps I was a little too hasty in dismissing the girl scout thin mint cookies as over priced.....might be the cheapest fix on the market. ____________________ Sometimes we can't choose the music life gives us - but we damn sure can choose how we dance!
