I am sure some of you saw this yesterday. I was kinda cringing at times.

The New England Patriots may have won their spot in the Super Bowl on Sunday by winning the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens 23-20, but singer Steven Tyler may have also won something – a spot on the list of failed Nation Anthem performances, reports Rebecca Ford of the Hollywood Reporter.

The Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge, sporting his signature scarf -- this time with a sequined Patriots theme -- sung The Star Spangled Banner before the game. While fans at the stadium cheered on the Aerosmith frontman, others expressed some harsh criticism of the singer on the web.

The AP wrote, “Let’s just say the rendition probably wouldn’t get him to Hollywood.” And Yahoo added: “He most definitely would not have made it to the next round on the show and I am sure Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson would have had some interesting words to say had he been singing in front of them.”

I read the new article last night on this and it was sham journalism creating controversy. Almost all the comments in the blog below the article called it BS. I am not a Tyler fan, yes he looks weird, but after the article I expected a horrible version. He did it with respect I thought, hit the notes, and got all the words, and it was not bad really. Compared to some of the modern singers who have added quite a few extra notes and missing words and twisted words, Tyler did fine.

I thought it sounded like Steven Tyler.....

And it was a good version of the song which IMHO is one of the hardest songs to sing...

Not a whole lot of style in the vocal rendition which I would have expected from Tyler. It was ok. Randy would have said he was screaming not singing and JLow would have said he was not ready of this type of a competition. No golden ticket for Tyler!

Anyone who thinks Steven's version sucked need only review this version, and they'll quickly change their opinion:

If you hire Tyler to sing the National Anthem, you ain't gonna get Lee Greenwood. The crowd seemed to appreciate his warbling.

Forget about Steven Tyler's rendition for a minuted and just think about the crappy Super Bowl halftime show we're going to get from Madonna this year.
Madonna? Really? Really? Is this really the best they could do?

This years half-time show will provide ample time for you to : take a leak, drop a deuce, stuff more food in your gullet, ice down more beer.

You hit it on the head John!!!!! To me it sounded like Steven Tyler singing the National Anthem. I thought it was OK. Did people expect Steven Tyler to sound like Pavorati??? If they didn't want to hear Steven Tyler sing the National Anthem they should have made a different choice but Steven Tyler singing the National Anthem is gonna sound like Steven Tyler singing the National Anthem.

I thought it was fine for what it was, he was in a stadium singing over a PA heard mostly through a television speaker, not like it was at the Met.......

Steven Tyler just needs to go away. He had his run in the sun and now it's time to move on. A hair cut would be a good place to start.
