I thought Duane played the gold top with the Dominoes. And if that's his cherry burst I thought he traded the goldtop for that one.....but in the photo it looks more like a tobbaco burst....one of EC's?
Bobby looks a little 'sleepy'?
Cool picture though..

Who is the guy behind Duane?

I didn't know Steve Perry was in D&D...always thought it was Clapton. And give the guy wearing sunglasses a cowbell.

FootPattin, Duane played the gold top in the studio with D&tD in September '70, but had traded it for the Cherry sunburst by the time this pic was taken on 12/2/70.

Does it look like Duane has one of those "I'd rather be somewhere else," looks on his face?

Ron Gersbacher

Here's a portion of the article posted by PhotoRon in another thread:
quote:
Ron Gersbacher, who writes about local music history under the name “Ron Wray,” has several binders packed with photographs from the War Memorial. They portray him — often in a turtleneck and horn-rimmed glasses — alongside celestial figures in rock. There is Gersbacher, shoulder to shoulder with Hendrix. And Joplin. And a clowning Ian Anderson and members of his band, Jethro Tull. And Alice Cooper, who “invited us back to talk after he got done hanging himself,” Gersbacher said. And Led Zeppelin, whose John Bonham and John Paul Jones later hitched a ride from Gersbacher to the Lost Horizon nightclub, “called the Yellow Balloon in those days.”

One photo, of particular meaning to Gersbacher, also puts an end to a long musical debate.

In 1970, Eric Clapton arrived at the War Memorial with Derek & The Dominos. Their landmark single was “Layla,” Clapton’s wailing lament about unrequited love, which critics still list as one of the great songs in rock history.

Gersbacher, typically fearless about asking for a photo, was intimidated about approaching Clapton. But Clapton and the band agreed to pose. In the image, you see Gersbacher’s head popping out from behind a guitarist.

It isn’t Clapton. He’s off to the left in the photo. It’s Duane Allman, another rock legend who’d be killed in a motorcycle crash within a year.

Here’s where the argument comes in.

While Allman took part in the making of “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs,” the album created by Derek & The Dominos, he was never an official member of the band. Allman and Clapton appeared on stage together in only two cities. While historians put the War Memorial on that list, some rock fans disagree. You'll find doubters who still question on the Internet whether Allman actually joined Derek & The Dominos in Syracuse.

The photo settles it. Allman was here.

Big thanks to Kuno Kishida and friend for giving up this photo on facebook, and a big thanks to Masahiko Yamaura for putting up a good clear larger size.

That's a rough looking crew right there. If my doorbell rang and I saw that group on the porch, I'd not invite them in. Just shut the door behind me and see what they came for. Maybe offer them a seat on the porch rail while I heard them out.

are you kidding me? I'd let them in and give them my last slice of pizza. I might make them sleep with a bucket by their head, but I'd let them crash out. I'm assuming you mean if you didn't recognize them at all.

You assumed right. If I did recognize them, I'd let Duane in and still keep the others outside. He looks like the least likely to puke on my floor and pass out. Maybe I'd let Clapton in. I'm not sure. Knowing that he would go on to record such gems as "Wonderful Tonight" makes me biased against him.

Jim did ring a doorbell once and his mother answered. I mean no disrespect; peace to both of them.
