With the Allman Brothers, Tedeschi Trucks, Warren Haynes Band and Joe Bonamassa all releasing concert DVDs this year, are these the "live albums" of our time?

DVD BEING FILMED 11/03 IN AUSTIN, TX
The Warren Haynes Band will be filming their show at The Moody Theatre at ACL Live for a DVD release to come out in 2012. This will capture the band in fine form after spending the better part of 2011 on the road in support of Warren's solo album "Man In Motion." You can be part of this filming by getting ticket for the show here.

JB: Live At The Beacon Due In March
Joe’s live DVD recorded at the Beacon Theater in NYC is due out on March 27th. Both Beacon shows were recorded, featuring special guests Beth Hart, John Hiatt, and Paul Rodgers. From a recent exclusive interview with Classic Rock Magazine (issue 167), Joe unveiled the release date. 2012 is going to be a great year for Joe, a lot of great things are already in the works. Kudos to 2011, looking forward to 2012! Stay tuned over the next few days for more insider news about 2012.

I can't see a new trend. This has been going on for many years. Lot's of music DVD's released. Many artists have been releasing DVDs of (nearly) every tour they played in the last couple of years. Joe Bonamassa, Tom Petty, Rush, Sheryl Crow, etc. Sometimes they are simultaneously released on CD as well and sometimes they are not. Sometimes that's up to the record company and sometimes a band decision. So you could say they are the "live albums" of our time. Especially since music dvds/bluerays are selling better than cds but that's going on for many years too.
