If the Grammy award is going to be for some type of "lifetime achievement" award then Dickey should definitely be invited and included. The writer of some of our most beloved songs and the guitarist for over 20 years deserves to share this .I certainly hope Dickey will be invited to this event.

Is there anything to invite him to? Or is this something they just mention?

Just found this in another thread. They get the award on Saturday with a mention during the telecast on Sunday.

The info on the home page of this site seems to indicate there will be an " invitation only" ceremony prior to the telecast.

A 'Lifetime Achievment' award without Dickey Betts being included would be meaningless.

Let me start by saying I hope Dickey's there for the award. Here's another chance to mend fences... I really doubt Dickey will show up. With all the BS about everything over the past 11 years why would he?

An invitation may be extended - but if it's done with same "sincerity" as the "invitation" to the Beacon was, I doubt he will attend.

I would think it's entirely up to the Grammy people as to who to invite.

Interesting. I wonder if the invitation will read like something that can be broadly interpreted:

The Allman Brothers Band.

There is another thread about John Fogerty's inability to re-connect with his former band mates and that has been after how many decades? Some wounds will never heal, does not matter who is to blame. In Dickey's case, we would all like to think the courtesy of an invitation is in order, but in all likelihood, we'll never know.

Hmmm, this topic again, eh?

Alright.
What happens if Betts is invited, told he'd be treated first class all the way,
and HE decided he wasn't going to go?

Then it be interesting to see if the camps split between "thats his perogative for all past slights" and "see, just an old, stubborn fool"

Where there would be a slight is if the Grammy's decided to honor them, live with a short film montage, and Betts wasn't in it. That wouldn't be right.

But my guess is we'll probably get the typical, "Earlier this evening we presented the Grammy awards for Lifetime Achievement. The recipients were....." and then they just flash to the performers sitting in the audience. Can't speak for the ABB, but if that was me, I'd just tell them to box it up and send it to me.

A lot depends on what the Grammy broadcast wants to do.

Cream got a lifetime achievement award in 2006, & Jack Bruce was the only one there. They just announced that they got the award. Nobody came onstage to speak, unless it was before the show. It might be the same way this year.

From what I've read, it's some sort of ceremony the day before the broacast. The broadcast will just be a mention of the award.

I'd be surprised if anyone goes to the ceremony, but Betts ought to be invited in any case.

I agree with Efus on how these Grammy Life..Achiev...Awards are presented. It will not be telecasted.
None of that.
The ceremony the day ahead for industry networking probably and if one of TAAB members shows up to represent them all, then good enough.
It is an honor , but it is sort of like a slighted honor in that the it is not on tv. Industry insiders network and musical artists, get to take pics, say a few words a dinner, hey, kind of, not really a big thing.

DB and GA don't have to break bread together and mend fences. Sorry diehard fans.
Shet happens. People break up in marriages, friends, business partnerships, whatever. All sides seem happy. So be it.
Maturity, old age, all that, seems TAAB would have their team call DB's team to show up to. It is Lifetime AA and the band consist of him for the acutal lifetime of when the band had their major hits, charted etc. DB was a writer.
If DB did not want to attend, cool. If so, cool.
As someone said, fans will never know if sincere invite was extended, accepted or declined . So.

If there is an invitation, it would come directly from the Grammy's. Dickey's an original member of the band and that by default would be an invitation. If there is a ceremony, he should be there.

Or maybe the Grammy's just send the invites to management and they take it from there.

I could understand him not showing, but I think he should reconsider his usual approach. We all have to do that sometimes. Often at critical junctures in our lives.

Seems the only way he could show to appear with the other members would be if an amicable talk happened first. To show up and see what happens would be odd or even really awkward. What does make sense is taped different segments if nothing else, with not appearing togethor. But to Dickeys credit, if the right feeling from the band that is still the ABB was not extended, then it maybe is more a respectful thing for him to not show than anything ego driven, which the man never seems to me. He never publically badmouths the new band, and has never shown disrespect in any Allman comment.

I think folks are laying low because it seems this is just dragging up the same old posts we've read thousands of times since 2000. For me, the Grammy award is a totally separate issue and a huge honor for anyone that has been part of the legacy. Dickey is an enormous part of the legacy and the way I see it, he needs to be part of the celebration. I'm not kicking the dead horse here, I'm just saying what most of us are thinking and believe, for this honor, we should be vocal and rallying for the man.

Dickey should be invited and he should attend. And Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe should as well, and as long as they're in the same place, the four of them should have dinner or whatever 60 somethings do and see if they can't hash this out.

With Derek and Warren devoting so much time to outside projects, perhaps there will be an opening soon and who better to fill it. It's long been my prediction that the way this band exits is with one last studio album and tour, with Dickey for both. It would be the artistic and financial homerun they need to end it right.

On another note, I disagree that just because it's not on TV, it's some sort of slight. I don't want the ABB lumped in with mass appeal artists that permeate the telecast. A lifetime award in some ways is their way of saying they understand that artists like the ABB don't have chart topping appeal, but nonetheless deserve recognition. Let the Beyonces and JayZs have the telecast. Although, I'll admit, last year's broadcast was really enjoyable in parts.
