This is just stupid. Donald Trump? Rightfully so? Really? This is a big deal? Nobody drives in Manhattan anyway. If they did for the tree lighting, they deserved to be caught in gridlock. NY does have a pretty good transit system into Manhattan.............

What is the point of this? Didn't meet your quota of youtube videos in your other posts?

Yeah, NY is one of those cities where there is usually only one thing going on at any given time.

I can't say our governor (RI) "stepped on Christmas" but changing the State House tree from a Christmas tree to a holiday tree sure has a few folks around here talking.
C'mon gov, call it what it is...

Well, calling it a "holiday tree" is obviously politically correct BS, and we know what is behind that.

But as for Obama and his fundraiser, the real news is that the Occupy Wall Street protested Obama's 1% suck ass trip, after Obama showed solidarity with them before.

Ya'll agree with the Occupy Wall Street protesters, right???????

Occupy Wall Street Protests President Obama's Fundraising Event In New York City

Occupy Wall Street may no longer have a home in Zuccotti Park -- but that doesn't mean they're done protesting around New York.

A few hundred demonstrators marched on midtown Wednesday night where they met police barricades at 53rd street and Seventh Avenue, not far from the Sheridan Hotel where President Obama was holding a pricey campaign fundraiser.

Obama's night in the city included three money-raising stops-- a small gathering at a private home, then a $35,800 a plate dinner at Gotham Bar and Grill, and finished with a holiday reception at the Sheridan.

According to The New York Times:

Demonstrators held signs that leveled some of the Occupy protest's most pointed criticism to date of the president. "Obama is a corporate puppet," one said. "War crimes must be stopped, no matter who does them," read another, beside head shots of President George W. Bush and President Obama.

"It's not so much about left and right as up and down in this country," organizer Mark Bray told WNYC. "Ultimately, regardless of which party we're talking about, whether it be the Republicans or the Democrats, there's a serious issue of conflict of interest when we have politicians who derive a large percentage of their campaign contributions from financial institutions and corporations who they're supposed to be regulating."

At one point, a couple protesters tried to break through the police barricade but were quickly pushed back.

During a New Hampshire speech last week, which was interrupted by Occupy protesters, Obama noted that his goals are in line with the movement's.

"A lot of the folks who have been down in New York and all across the country, in the Occupy movement, there is a profound sense of frustration," the president said. "This is a place where your hard work and your responsibility is supposed to pay off. It's supposed to be a big, compassionate country where everybody who works hard should have a chance to get ahead -- not just the person who owns the factory, but the men and women who work on the factory floor."

Contrary to popular belief held in the north...there are a number of us in the rest of the country whose lives don't come to a halt to watch the lighting of a murdered tree.

Trees are a crop and a renewable resource. Think of all of the young trees that were squeezed out and died because that bigger tree blocked their sun and sapped up their soil. That is usually the reason behind nature using fire as a tool, but humans keep trying to put them out. Now there is space for more than a couple of trees to survive next year.

My company still calls our sale in December a "Christmas" sale. We advertise heavily in the are and people actually thank us for not calling it a "Holiday" sale. Nobody ever complains that we call it a "Christmas" sale.

Obama cannot be held responsible for what is going on in the city on a day when he visits it. As a President his business and meetings trump other activities in any city. That's part of the perks of being a President, you are more important than other people, because of the job you do. As a President the job you do impacts every person in the country, therefore, if you are in a city on any particular day, people have to accept whatever inconvenience might occur.

Does he need to do fundraisers? Absolutely. With the Republican controlled House of Representatives and the difficulty negotiating between the House and Senate, he has to try to get more Democratic politicians into office in 2012, and to do that takes money, to get money, they need to do fundraisers.

As to the job he is doing, what did he inherit? How was the country when Bush left office? People need to remember that.
