People on this site will find this book interesting reading.

Alan wrote a couple of great ABB related articles for Guitar World among other publications.

Support a fellow itinerant Peach Head. Millions, if not thousands, maybe even hundreds of Chinese nationals now know the Engish words to Soulshine and other blues standards.

I'm reading this right now, about halfway through it and enjoying it very much. Here's a better link:

Foppa, thanks so much.

I'm so deep in the first that I can't see a single tree, but I really do think that most people who love the ABB enough to be here will enjoy my book.

Here's an excerpt about some of the joys of playing "sSulshine" in Changsha, Hunan, China:

That Guitar World article is one of the best articles, I've read on the band -- because there is no filter -- other than the brief section intros -- just a round robin of the band members' own words.
And while neither Duane nor Berry are quoted directly, it is also a good overview/history, as well.

Bob - thanks for that. Once you're done, I'd really appreciate a review and continuing to spread the word. Word of mouth has been most effective.

And Brightboy - thanks also. There is a filter, though - me.

Those oral history stories look easy but take hours of meticulous interviewing, editing and putting together. I felt really proud of that one, and still do. I appreciate that you and others have noticed! I need to get that onto my blog.

Right -- I do understand that you select/edit etc. what to include from each member of the band -- but I am assuming you did not "cherry pick"/take statements out of context nor change words -- so I guess I meant that you did not inject yourself into the "conversation" much beyond the section intros. Is that a more accurate description/assessment?

enjoyed the "Soulshine" segment of the book.

The Guitar World article was fantastic. Heartbreaking in a way, thinking about the losses.

thanks for posting

I understood what you meant and I did not mean to imply being offended at all, just to be clear.

This is sort of accurate, but it's not that simple. You have to realize that the first step is doing hours of interviews with all of these different people and then creating a history that keeps moving forward, covers all the bases, etc.

I inject myself into the conversation simply by deciding which quotes by whom I include about what. I really think that I did it especially well in this case, in part because I do know the story so well and in part because it really mattered to me to be both fair and accurate.

The most obvious example is I spoke with everyone about dickey no longer being in the band and it was a balancing act. I feel strongly that I included the essence of each person's perspectives in the quotes I used.

Hey, Alan ... we're good!
I did not think you implied offense, and I do actually know/get/understand what goes into the interview/editing/writing of such an article.

I was complimenting you on doing a great job You managed to get the "conversation" to flow and maintained the coherence and the balance in large measure and at the same time, did not intrude.

All good stuff ... and, no, not easy stuff -- it just looks that way.

Thanks man. You know, the very best compliment you can get on a story like that is that your presence isn't noted. That's really what you;re trying to achieve.
