One of the highlights of the evening for me. Worried Down and Stormy Monday were both GREAT versions too!

Great post.

I think Susan's dress instruction have become part of Derek. No flannel shirt?

Don't flame me but how come they don't get bored playing this old stuff? I used to get excited by it but that was forty years ago when it sounded fresh.

Or do they get bored witless?

At least the Beacon shows have the stimulus of some new playmates showing up.

Because a job is a job and a payday is a payday - they play through the boredom. We all get bored; yet we go to work. Go on the oldies circuit to a show and hear someone playing a song they've played for 55 years - now in front of 800 people. In college Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs (c 1974) played at a party for a grand or two. These guys are fortunate to have some new blood in the band that allows them to perform for 2 - 2 1/2 hrs rather than the 90 minutes I get at a Westbury show from other bands

bored?
each tune has something different to offer each time it's played. yea, there are a few that I've heard enough times with little variation, but to me the brothers make most of the catalogue sound fresh. I could listen to 5 different versions of Dreams, Liz Reed, jessica, BHW, Rocking horse, Stormy Monday, among others and not get bored
ymmv

Shavian: Sorry you don't enjoy the love the boys send forth from the stage each night, but bored is the last thing I'm seeing. The Friday 11/25 show was dynamic, my wife even thought maybe better than the 3/18 Beacon show we went to (I have to respectfully disagree with her there). One of the things I love - besides listening to Derek's and Warren's blistering leads - is watching these guys visibly enjoying the show, smiling at each other and the audience as they roll through the "old" songs. I specifically remember Warren smiling at folks in the front rows toward the end of the second set. And the version of Jessica to close out the first set, with an amazing free-form jam in the middle, was pretty epic seeing I had not heard it live for quite a while. The thing for me is, I get the sense that these guys really enjoy the jam, maybe almost as much as I do, and for that I'm grateful. Not dead, just grateful.

Peace out, enjoy a Peach!

1. They really do look bored with it.
2. I know it's not a competition, but Derek smokes Warren without even trying.
3. I think I'm really getting tired of Warren being in the ABB. His playing is very repetitive and it's losing it's luster with me, and that could have something to do with when playing with the ABB, Warren's love of using
4. The "woman" tone made famous by Clapton. Volume on the guitar is high, but turn the tone knob down to 2 or 1. It's terrible and makes all of his solo's sound compressed and flat.

It sure seems like a lot of people are down on these guys lately. They play 6 shows and people think they are bored? Perhaps it is just the few posting that are bored which is cool but if long improv jams from the band bore then why bother with the ABB when that is what they have always been?

Not many duo guitar bands come even close to Haynes and Trucks regardless of which you prefer. Enjoy it while you can or just don't pay attention.

Thank you, as usual, for being the voice of reason.

I'm all for listening to extended jams but I don't class this YDLM as one of those (although the video seems to end prematurely).

It's not just "six show" boredom - it's 40 year boredom. I know all the usual arguments - "Enjoy it while you can", "Every song is played differently every time"....

Okay - it's not the band's fault, and there is nothing wrong with you guys who get off on the same songs and arrangements as we did all those years ago. It's just me. My tastes have evolved and a diet of YDLM, OWO, Stateboro etc is no longer as satisfying as it once was. I just wondered if the band was as bored playing these old songs as I was listening to them. I know I'd be bored doing the same job for forty years.

I know it's risky asking such questions on a fans' website but there is an element of the emperor's new clothes about it.

If I had my choice, there would be some more new tunes. My favorite parts of the recent Beacon shows are the Miles covers.
the "old tunes" still do it for me because of what Derek, Warren, and Oteil do for them.

different strokes.

I can't believe how whiny so many people are being. Like I say about any band, if you don't like what they're doing, move on. Don't dwell on how you used to feel about a band or what YOU feel they should be doing. There are millions of bands and no one is making you listen to any particular one.

Personally I still love them.
