This thing is silly! How do you put James Hetfield on there, period, and then how do you put Hetfield on there over Hammett? C'mon, man.

Derek at #16 speaks volumes to me in terms of who else is in the top #20. I believe it shows a ton of respect for the body of work he has put out in both studio and extraordinary live performances.

Duane at #9 to me is however perplexing to me. It is only another list though. I hate them.

No Thin Lizzy Guitarists and these lists always make me laugh for that alone.

People must really hate Steve Vai and Joe Satriani also. Wow!

Because George was without a doubt a much more proficient guitar player than John, and even he would have told you that.

Right you are Rich. If you saw the HBO special a few months ago on George Harrison, John pretty much did say that. Nice to see Alex Lifeson on the list.

Thanks, Hank. Didn't see the special but heard it was great. I think I might have seen John praise George's guitar prowess during the Tom Snyder interview or maybe read it somewhere. John made it pretty clear he didn't think George was in his or Paul's class as a songwriter, but he was in the Beatles to play the guitar.

Hope you're feeling better, Hank!

There are quite a few omissions here, but Warren Haynes, Robben Ford and Steve Morse to me are just completely inexcusable. Duane dropping from #2 to #9 doesn't really surprise me. Why? Simply because there is not much live footage around of Duane as there is Hendrix, so people tend to forget him. You can watch Hendrix at Woodstock, Hendrix at Monterey, Hendrix at Berkeley. That's one reason some people need to get off of their butts and get the footage that exists of ABB (Love Valley, Atlanta Pop, The Fillmore) on to a DVD and officially released.

Rob, you make a very good point about some folks needing to get off their duffs and get some footage of Duane released....but #9, give me an ever lovin' break for crying out loud. These people are IMHO, a frigging joke.
And no Warren? Let's get real here....oh oh reality just hit...its called Rolling Stone.
Now I remember why I don't read that rag.

Duane should have been higher as well as Dickey. Peter Townsend is a little strange. Jan Ackermann should have been there also. But one guy who should have been at the top was Al DeMeola but maybe it was for rock guitar players. They missed Andy Powell from Wishbone Ash, also.

No Lowell George? The list is herby declared RUBBISH!

They did get Albert King and Freddie King up where they should be.

Sonic Youth? I saw them and they got booed, they were nail on chalkboard Noise, yes.

I know he was a pretty picker, but, ummm... Paul Simon?

Eddie Van Halen 8?????

Prince is technically good, but how can you rate him as a great when he basically choose to hide that talent? And really, his songs will not endure in any large way over time. Ditties.

But they got the KIngs! Rubbish on the rest. But "Lists" are a terrible idea to begin with..........

Agreed in SPADES; no DiMeola, no list........he very well may be the greatest guitar player in the world. And John McLaughlin is #68, so it sure ain't just for rock players.

And Dickey at #61... really...

If Duane is 9 then Dickey should be 10... they go hand in hand...
