Brian's comments in the Rolling Stone article were interesting.....

Asked if he's looking forward to the anniversary, he responds, "Not
particularly," adding, "I really don't like working with the guys, but it all
deprends on how we feel and how much money's involved."

Al Jardine, in the Endless Harmony documentary, said: "It's an amazingly
difficult concept to think of the Beach Boys without Carl Wilson."

I agree with Jardine. The upcoming reunion without him will definitely
be missing something.

Looking forward to the SMILE release next month.

I don't care what their motivations are, if those 4 tour together, I'll be there. Maybe they could also get early Beach Boy David Marks involved for the tour.

I take it Jardine said that right after Carl died. Since The Beach Boys including Jardine have carried on for quite a few years now without Carl, that's obviously an old quote. I can see where he's coming from though. Last night I watched the Knebworth DVD which is a 1980 show, the last one with all three Wilson brothers on board. Carl was just a monster singer/guitar player!! I think a Beach Boys reunion including Al Jardine, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and Brian Wilson would be quite interesting.

Seems like an empty project without Carl & Dennis.

Never thought I'd see Brian Wilson & Mike Love on stage together again...well, even to AGREE to be on the same stage again is major.

After Carl passed away, Al Jardine actually left the Beach Boys. So, since Carl's
death, it's been just Mike Love and Bruce Johnston (sometimes with original
Beach Boys guitarist David Marks) touring as the "Beach Boys" with a bunch
of backing musicians. Al Jardine had his own project going (I think it's called
the Endless Summer Band)...at one point Mike Love sued Al for using
the name "Beach Boys Family Band."

It'll be interesting to hear their 2011 remake of "Do it Again."

I'd love to see David Marks be involved.

Carl Wilson of course will be extremely missed. I'm not sure I'd be such a big fan of the Beach Boys without his voice. But Having Mike, Al, Brian & Bruce together would be a nice treat, especially with David Marks... and hey if they could get Blondie Chaplin &/or Ricky Fataar to sit in that'd be cool too, but I'm sure that won't happen...

Yep, Al was very uninterested in being in The Beach Boys without Carl and Brian. He confirmed that again in an interview just a couple years ago. He said when Carl died the voice and spirit of the Beach Boys was gone. - I think it's different however if you're doing a one-off reunion like they are now.

Re: Al and his past statments, $ talks! Bottomline, he's probably looking to be a part
of this to cash in. I will say, I've seen the Beach Boys recently. Yes, it's basically a
nostalgia act, but very high energy. Mike and Bruce are personable and easy to work with.
I really think adding Brian and Al, if they can all get along, back into the mix of the
"Beach Boys" will provide for some really great moments.

Thanks for correcting me and my misinformation. I thought Jardine had always been a Beach Boy (I don't know why, I guess I just assumed so). I've never seen The Beach Boys, only Brian Wilson a couple of times, and to be honest I wonder if The Beach Boys even with all surviving members could be as great as Wilson and his band were two months ago.

Yeah, Brian's solo career has been pretty damn special. the Wondermints are
the perfect back up band for him. Still, as mentioned in one of the
posts, the idea of Mike Love and Brian Wilson appearing on the
same stage is pretty big news. They're getting on in age, so it's
probably now or never. Mike Love is 70, I believe Al and Bruce are 69 years
old.

I would be there without a doubt, but I am skeptical about this ever happening.
I would imagine there is still quite a bit of bitterness from Brian over the stuff Mike has done over the years, most notably the lawsuit.
Wont be the same without Carl, thats for sure.
I have refused to see the Beach Boys without Brian, even when Carl was still around.
I am guessing Al would do it only Brian does as well.I dont think there is any bad blood there, as Al sat in with Brian a few years ago..

Crappy quality, but you get the picture.

Oh, and I am very psyched for the Smile release.

Loved Brian's release of it in 03. I do have a "boot" of the original sessions.
That large boxset is VERY cool, but $$$$$$$$$$$

As far as I recall (but considering I can't remember what I had for breakfast, take this with the grain of hypertensive salt that it is), that back during the litigation between Mike & Al over the naming rights, Mike & Bruce recruited David Marks to rejoin the band due to some requirement that at least 3 original members needed to be involved for Mike to keep the rights of the Beach Boys name. (and since David had replaced Al for those first 3 or 4 albums while Al was in college, they considered him an "original" member) Once they won the lawsuit against Al, Marks was let go.

Yes, that is what I have understood, except that I did read that David Marks said he actually did leave because he had cancer at the time. And he did do one publicity event since he left (and now that he is better), so I'm not 100% sure that it was that completely devious. Although I wouldn't put that past Mike.

I have seen these guys to many times. Once on my own, just to see them and the rest of the time with girls I was dating because they wanted to see them. I have no intrest in seeing them. It sounds like Wilson is n ot to hot on playing with them so I can not see this will be a show worth paying the over priced tickets. And you know the tickets will be very expensive.
