Wouldn't be surprised if the Drive-By Truckers are part of the line-up since they had to channel last year. Nothing scheduled in early/mid december in their tour dates.

Think your assumption is right, though the Flecktones do some nice Xmas music, but then that was the band w/ Jeff Coffin so who knows?

Some info from the VIP link (not that I'm interested):

http://cidentertainment.com/home/xmasjam2011.php

Xmas Jam Weekend VIP Ticket includes:

One (1) Ticket to the private "Pre-Jam" at the Orange Peel featuring Gov't Mule, Planet Of The Abts (only Asheville show Xmas Jam weekend) and other Xmas Jam artists on 12/9. The "Pre-Jam", not otherwise open to the public, is an opportunity to see the Xmas Jam artists in an intimate setting.
One (1) Ticket for the 23rd Annual Xmas Jam at The Asheville Civic Center on Saturday 12/10
Early Entry to the Asheville Civic Center on 12/10
Separate VIP Entrance to the Asheville Civic Center
Admission to the VIP Room at the Asheville Civic Center with finger foods and private cash bar*
VIP Viewing Area on the floor of the Asheville Civic Center
VIP Only Seating Section in the Mezzanine Section of the Asheville Civic Center
*BRAND NEW* Meet and Greet with Warren Haynes after the Pre-Jam on 12/9. Get your picture taken with Warren for your very own Xmas Jam Themed Holiday Card that can be easily downloaded for free!
One (1) Limited Edition 23rd Annual Christmas Jam Poster
One (1) 23rd Annual Christmas Jam Shirt
One (1) Christmas Jam Gift Bag
One (1) Christmas Jam Merchandise Gift
*Please note that due to construction at the ACC, the VIP room will not be the same room as in XMas Jam in years past.

$349 per person

Now if Warren puts on a Santa suit for the photo, I might pay!

Man, that is an awesome Phil & Friends lineup!!! If I didn't already have a ticket to see Hot Tuna at the Beacon that night I would have given much consideration to a road trip for that.

If you donate $400 to WNCW you'll get 2 tickets to the pre-jam, some other nice gifts, and a tax deduction.

Looks like a great show in the works. I just got back from a business trip to Asheville last week and I really enjoyed the town. Lot's of great food and local beer to try. Everyone was really friendly also. Just walking around was fun. I'll visit there again on my own time for sure.

Yeah, Asheville is a great town. It's hilly, but I love walking around there. Downside is it gets New England cold there in the winter.

I have very fond memories of Christmas Jam 2000 & 2001. The 2000 show at the Theatre was one of the most emotional nights of music I can ever rememeber. Woody had just passed & Warren's opening acoustic set (1 solo, 2 with Abts on congas behind him) was something I'll never forget. Warren & Gregg later on acoustic was icing on the cake.

I got my ticket this morning. I fully consider this lineup to be worth the $70, so I'm definitely not complaining. Now I just have to figure out accommodations. I've got some friends coming down from NJ and we're trying to decide on hotels and such. As this is my first Xmas Jam, I have no idea what to expect, but could someone in the know clue me in as to the best place(s) to stay?

Try the Renaissance - or whatever that hotel is called now - this one:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/avlbr-renaissance-asheville-hotel/

Here's another - way different - but I've spent the night there once, it was fine, just first-floor/busy street.

The Marriott will have nice views and what-not (and bands stay there sometimes, if you're into that scene).

If you find a hotel that is at "Biltmore" or "Tunnel Road" area(s), a cab ride or very long walk will be necessary.

I liked staying at the old Best Western on Woodfin, which is now a Sheraton Four Points. Great location and clean with decent enough amenities for the price. Prices might have gone up if Four Points is a higher-quality brand, but it was a great location for both the Civic Center and walking downtown. Worth checking out to see what the prices are. As an economy motel (when it was Best Western), it was pretty good with plenty of parking and interior entrances to the rooms. Felt safe there. I tried the Days Inn over by the Orange Peel one time, which was typically priced about the same as the old BW, and the Days Inn was night & day difference (worse) in terms of quality and perception of safety. My $0.02.

I have stayed at the crown plaza for the last 10 years. There is a Denny's within a three minute drive down a private road from the hotel to the restaurant. In other words, it is very easy to get something to eat after a night of partying. There is also a nice pub and restaurant in the hotel that has several premium local brews. The hotel has gone up since the major upgrades, $149 a night, but I would not stay anywhere else. The hotel does provide a private shuttle to the Jam and to downtown the night before. If you do decide to stay at this resort, hit me up with a PM. Most of the party friendly folks stay in a given area of hotel.
