Trying to come up with some good songs for Hugh's visitation and services and thought who better would know but all of his friends on here. Please tell me some suggestions of songs that you think would be appropriate. And once again thank everyone for all the years of friendship that this site gave my husband. He considered each and everyone on here a close and personal friend!

Mandy, sorry for your loss.
I think "Blue Sky" by The Allman Brothers speaks to who we all are.
Condolences from New York.

Mandy, I never knew Hugh personally or even spoke with him electronically, but I did enjoy reading many of his posts over the years. I am very sorry for your loss.

As for music suggestions, I'm another griff who concurs with griff. Blue Sky.

I have told everyone close to me that when my time comes, the one song I'd like played for me is Blue Sky. Dickey & Duane and the original ABB playing the sweetest melody and happiest song I know.

I know Hugh liked Black Oak Arkansas also, I'm not familiar with any of their work, so I don't know what's appropriate

Mandy, I am very sorry. Please feel free to ask for advice on any topic you need help with going forward.

I know Hugh loved him some Black Oak Arkansas. I don't know if their music is appropriate for such an occasion, but I think Hugh would get a kick out of it nevertheless. Hot & Nasty or Jim Dandy?

Gov't Mule's version of 'Presence of the Lord' and Warren Haynes version of 'I Shall Be Released' are two that come to mind. Prayers and condolences to you Mandy.

Hi Mandy ... sincere condolences ... although Hugh and I (and you) never met because I live in the UK I still consider Hugh to have been one of my best friends ...

As for tunes ... "Blue Sky" by the ABB as mentioned above is a good call ... but I know how much Hugh loved Jimi ... and so I suggest "Angel" - the song Jimi wrote to commemorate his mothers passing ...

My wife (Jan) and I will still be coming to Memphis next April when we were "pencilled in" to meet Hugh and your good self ... I would still like to meet you if possible and toast Hugh's memory ... will send an email later ... for now ... as above ... sincere condolences ... Hugh remains one of the kindest people and bgood friends that I never met ...

RIP dear friend ...

Jessica by the Allman Bros.

I can't see how you couldn't also have Little Martha.

Hugh also had an appreciation for Frank Zappa, Watermelon in Easter Hay is one of the greatest
instrumentals Frank ever wrote.

Here's some Black Oak Arkansas, I'm sure Hugh would get a big kick out of this one:

Some of Stevie Ray Vaughan's quieter songs like Lenny, Riviera Paradise, Life By the Drop, Little Wing all come to mind.

There are a lot of threads on this site of who your favorite albums, songs, etc.. Hugh participated in. I did a search of username Hughduty and read thru some. Beggars Banquet seemed to come up repeatedly as his favorite LP.

But he obviously liked a lot of music. I would feel more comfortable suggesting something Hugh liked after doing more research.

here are some hits on Beggars Banquet..

Mandy, know that many thoughts are with you, many hearts hold you close.

I think I saw Hugh posting about Warren Zevon shows at one time and that he was a fan of his music. This is a song Zevon wrote as the final track of his final album and I think the sentiment here speaks to how we would all like to be remembered (Keep Me in Your Heart)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMTKb-pgxGI

He also mentioned Time Waits for No One as a favorite Rolling Stones tune, with one of his favorite Mick Taylor guitar pieces

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14OkJYDJduM

And as Ed mentioned - he always mentioned loving Leon Russell. This is one of Leon's most beautiful tunes (IMO) - A Song for You

Hi Mandy. My favorite tunes for conveying the emotion sought for a visitation service are Melissa, Little Martha and Keep Me In Your Heart For a While. Those are the ones I have asked my family to play if something happens and I depart suddenly.

God bless you. We'll miss Hugh here. He was part of our famABBly.

All Things Must Pass - George Harrison.

He was a huge fan of George's..

I also agree with many of the above suggestions as well.

So sorry for your loss Mandy. I'd never met Hugh in person but I considered him a good friend like many of us here.

This must be a very difficult time for you and your family and you don't know how much it means to us all here by you posting here, Hugh had a lot of friends here, it was like a big online family of connected folks.

As for music, I'm sure he would like some Allman Brothers music like Blue Sky and Little Martha.

I'm sure those who knew him better than I did will have some good ideas.

Again, all of our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

Hugh and I shared a love of two bands in particular: Spirit and Sea Level.

It would be pretty hard to hear right now, but Spirit's It's Nature's Way is something I know Hugh liked. I talked about the song with him when my mother died. Here is a version from Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjN8PdaoFaQ

Two Sea Level songs that are very pretty are Grand Larceny and Rain in Spain.

Another that comes to mind is Fresh Air, by Quicksilver Messenger Service.

I am so sorry for your loss, Hugh was a VERY special person to us here.

Mandy when my brother-in-law passed away in August of 2010, at the end of his service we played the instrumental version of Little martha->Blue Sky-Little Martha that the ABB played in tribute to both duane & dickey on 03-23-2009! It is beautifull and reverent in its own way. We had many of my wife's mother's friends ask us about the beautiful guitar instrumental that was played. may your heart be lifted with great memories and may your grief be softened by the music that he loved so!

Mandy, I'm so sorry for your loss. I never got to meet Hugh either, but he was was one of the kindest souls here on this site.

I fondly recall some discussions about with him about Leon Russell as well. A Song for You would be nice, along with the Allmans Brothers Band suggestions others have made.

Mandy, I am so sorry for your loss. I too never met him in person, but Hugh was a special person on this site; He was generous, opinionated, loved all kinds of music, straightforward he and kept people honest by telling you flat out if you were wrong. He will be sorely missed. I know he liked Jeff Beck, so I would suggest Jeff's instrumental version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

I wish you and your entire family peace and comfort knowing what a great human being he was.

Mandy - I'm so sorry for your loss and also for the loss of the greater ABB community as well. Hugh was so kind and generous to me, I can't begin to say.....

I would choose Seven Turns - I once read that it was his ringtone. I concur with WharfRat that something by George Harrison would be great, like All Things Must Pass. May I also suggest Beware of Darkness? There are many great suggestions posted above.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Just a great guy, always enjoyed communicating with him. When my brother passed someone put together a disk and one song on it was He was a friend of mine by the Grateful Dead. Says it all.

Again, my thoughts are with you.

Hugh and I loved Jeff Beck ,

I would think "People Get Ready" with Rod Steward would be appropriate.
