Ok, feel free to flame away at any old burnout who would start a thread as idiotic as this one. I can take it, I'm not fireproof, but I'm doing asbestos I can...

Question: What was the best rock scream or yell ever recorded?

IMO, Daltrey in "Won't Get Fooled Again"

but there was that interesting sounding howl in "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East

What got me started on this was hearing "Children Of The Sun" by Billy Thorpe on the FM, although I'm not sure his high note on the word "glide" qualifies as a scream or a yell.

Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) - Child in Time, and the scream at the end
of "Strange Kind of Woman" on DP's Made in Japan.

I THINK it's Bobby Whitlock (maybe Clapton?), after a solo break, when they're about to launch full steam ahead again during Key to the Highway on the Live at the Fillmore Derek & Dominos album.

Always one of my favorite songs (that particular version), and that scream perfectly describes how hyped up I am at that point of the song.

On a same note, also representing how excited I am . . . from the same group . . . the "yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah!" at the beginning of Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad from the studio album.

Yes. I love me some Dominos.

For me this is a slam dunk for David Lee Roth in the early days of Van Halen. Those high pitched shrieks and yells he did, especially live were and still are as unique as they come. Never ever heard another singer match those sounds which were his signature.

Can't overlook Janis Joplin, she wrote the book on rock screaming ! She ripped in "Ball and Chain."

Also, I don't know if it's a scream or a yell, but certainly an astonishing vocal blood-curdler, and that was
when Merry Clayton cracked the ceiling in "Gimme Shelter."
