My fourteen year old hipped me to this Canadian Band. Evidently they just won the Rolling Stone best band competition. They are very Allmanesque and admitted so in the latest Rolling Stone where they grace the cover. Just wondered if anybody else has heard of them? Any of our brothers in the Great White North ...

I just opened the new Rolling Stone yesterday and like you said they're on the cover. Haven't even read the article yet, I know nothing about this band but I'll have to investigate.

This is SO great! I have just spent a weekend with my BESTEST friend in the world with her 2 kids, one of whom is a 15 year old boy. HE mentioned the Sheepdogs to me, TOO!!!! Said that they were big fans of the ABB and modeled a lot of their sound and styles after the band, and bands like them. How awesome that our youngsters are teaching us about new sounds, and that younger bands are keeping the music ALIVE!! I will definitely be supporting this band!

They sound more Skynard than ABB to me. I think they are from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I saw them on one of the late night shows last week. They seemed alright.

They are getting some radio play here in Vcitoria, BC, but classic rock radio being what it is can't play anything newer than 95 so they are not getting much in the way of listens.

Yes
The Sheepdogs, they are from Saskatchewan. We saw them at Bluesfest a couple of weeks ago. They were awesome. Glad to see they are making some noise down in the States. I can’t believe they are not signed either
It’s Canadian's way of saying sorry for Celine Dionne, Justin Bieber and of course Nickelback. So I hope we are all good now.

I first heard of this group when I was reading RS in the dentist's office last winter, and they were in the beginning stages of the contest. Their little blurb mentioned that they liked the ABB, so I started checking them out. What I heard definitely piqued my interest.

Ecosense, I couldn't agree more. It's been nothing but a gas for me traveling along with my son on his musical journey. Rediscovering the Beatles from the inside out was just a really great thing. I play a little guitar so trying to learn the tunes of the different bands has been such a wonderful experience for me. My son downloaded one of the Sheepdog's CD's or EP's and I've listened to a few times. Besides the Allmans, I detect a little Doors and Dead too. And I would say they're more Outlaws than Skynyrd, leafsfan, because of the vocal harmonies. Heavy 70's riff rock which is very cool. They're young according to my son mid-to-late twenties, but have been playing/touring for several years. More power to 'em especially if they can turn radio back to playing some current guitar based blooze rock. I know of at least one band that has put out a couple of records in that vein and could use the airplay.

The Sheepdogs couldn't get arrested here in Canada until this
Rolling Stone thing happened (that's always the way)....I bought
`LEARN AND BURN' recently and I love it. Not very Allmanesque
(IMO) although the guitar solo in the title cut is lifted directly from
Duane's on `Liz Reed' from `AFE'. That's the best tune on the
disc....musically they are all over the map, veering from pre-BTO
Brave Belt to Elvin Bishop to the Chi-Lites. But it all goes down
well. It will be very interesting to see what their major-label debut
will be like. They are due here in October opening for the KOL, if
that tour happens.....

Video is classic, obviously filmed in LA, there are no hills and definitly no curves in the roads in Saskatchewan, oh yeah and palm trees LOL.

Only in Saskatchewan can you sit on the front porch and watch your dog run away for two days.

GO RIDERS!!!!!!!!!

Too funny, leafsfan! And Daryl supposedly the KOL is going to tour Canada. Just not the US because of one of them's substance abuse problem. I hope they do because from what I've heard of the Sheepdogs, the Dogs will blow KOL offstage and hopefully back into the obscurity where they belong. KOL, the biggest bunch of nothing I've heard recently.

Yup, born in Saskatoon. So flat you can see yesterday looking in one direction and tomorrow in the other...heard the bass player from Sheepdogs talking up their London show later this fall.
