The Lowell Summer Music Series concert by Gregg Allman scheduled for August 30, 2011 has been cancelled by the artist for medical reasons.

The following announcement was issued by Gregg Allman's management:

"We're sorry to announce that Gregg Allman, upon his doctor's orders, is

canceling his tour from August 26, 2011 through September 15, 2011. Allman had to cancel several dates at the end of his European run in June due to an upper respiratory condition. His doctor hoped that with rest, he'd get better, but unfortunately the issue has persisted. Treatment is going to

involve several days of hospitalization and 4 - 6 weeks of bed rest at home."

I'm actually glad to see this. I've been concerned he's been working a bit too hard and have been wishing he would take a rest. I am watching those January Florida dates. I have an extremely hectic 4th quarter and somes shows in warm, sunny, Florida will be just the vacation I need from the cold, snowy, Chicago winter come January.

So rest on up Gregory. I know several Angels willing to commandeer a bus to nurse you back to health should you need it. Plenty of us to cover all shifts. Prayers and love on the way to you in the winds in the meantime.

Milk Thistle is supposed to be good at detoxifying the liver. Look into natural ways to get back to health. People need to listen to their bodies, when you are tired, you NEED to rest. No justification needed to anybody.

Of all the things you can lose, once your health is gone, nothing else will be of any use to you because you can't enjoy it. It takes the body a good seven months just to heal from the effects of anesthesia, add the surgical stuff on top of that, and yes it can be more than year till you are back to yourself. Take the time you need, your body will let you know how long that is. Don't let anyone else push you into shows when you are not ready.

God only brings you to your knees so you will ask him for some help and learn to depend on him. Everybody else is just going to have to wait. The gates of hell are closed this month during Ramadan, so it is a perfect time for rest and renewal of your body and your spirit.

it's not the new liver, He has an upper respiratory infection that has not responded to treatment and he needs to be in the hospital for a few days of IV antiboitics and probably another ten days of oral
antibiotics and rest.

When you are on medicine that reduces your immune system like chemo, Organ Transplant anti rejection drugs or DMARs (Disease Modifying Anti Rheumatic drugs) it makes it tough to fight off infections and a simple cold or flu can run rampant.

The same thing happened to me this spring. I was on Remicade (DMAR) and got a similar upper respiratory infection, that I fought for a month before my doctor put me on a strong oral antibiotic
to try and clear it up. That did the trick, however, the next stage for me would have been what Gregg is doing now, getting IV treatment in a hospital, followed by home care and rest.

Get well soon Brother Gregg!

Disappointed that I won't see him in September, but very glad he's taking care of himself. He really looked tired on that short appearance on The Today Show last week.

If you look at the picture below (of him with Natalie Cole), you can
see that he's looking really drained.

Get well, Gregory.

Major self induced ass kicking required. I had tix to see Gregg last night in Kitchener Ontario but didn't go at the last minute for extraneous reasons. Friends of mine did go and said it was a great show.

I had planned on seeing him in Windsor CT on my birthday, in Lewiston NY on 9/7 and Toronto on 9/9.

Went from seeing 4 shows to 0 just like that. Hindsight...

Well, I for one thought he was pushing a bit too hard given road reports that he was not quite up to snuff energy and health wise. I thought all along I'd rather see him get proper rest, treatment and recovery time ensure good health in the longer term.

The man needs to get well and take care of himself. I know touring is a form of therapy for him, but hopefully he can get that with less strenuous non-road activity.

Perhaps spending time with his bandmates at home or close to home, doing a bit of writing, relaxing and healing would be good for body, mind and soul...........and us fans.

Ain't no ABB without Mr. A. This road needs to go on for a good while longer........

Yes, p-l-e-a-s-e take care of yourself and get completely well and strong.

When you realize how ill he is and obviously has been for a while, the terrific reviews from Europe, Canada (last night) and the Beacon/Hep C Benefit show performance are all that more amazing.

Impressive to say the least, but obviously, too much too soon after his transplant.

Echoing everyone else here -- positive thoughts and wishes for a swift/full recovery.

Glad to hear Gregg is going to get the rest he needs. Follow the doctors orders and get your strength back. The music is great, but your health is top priority.

I was thinking about going up to Hunter Mountain for the day when Gregg was supposed to play the first Bluestock. This news puts an end to those possible plans. Get well soon Gregg.
