Derek played a new SG for the Conan gig. below is what bobby said about it

That is a Derek Trucks Model SG from the Gibson factory.. Will be available for sale this year as part of the 50th anniversary of the Gibson SG. This is just the first DT model Gibson, there will be others... This is a factory guitar exactly like the one Derek plays, it will be moderately priced. Go get one!

I will be surprised if it isn't $1500 or more. But I have already been wrong a few times today....

I don't know I could definitely tell it wasn't Derek's personal SG. It's funny before I found out this was his model coming out soon, I remember watching him on Leno a couple months ago and again on Conan thinking his guitar looks like a shiny "Toy" version of his normal SG and it sounds a little muddier too. I'd put money on it that he played it on Leno too.

Judging by the look and sound I'd say it will be $899

Gibson may or may not pay him an endorsment fee, but I'm positive that if he needs another guitar or anything Gibson he gets it, and gets exactly what he wants. Their custom shop takes very good care of him.

Hope you are right V. If you are, that will be my present to myself. If it's over then I'm just stuck wishing and dreaming

A 61 re-issue goes for just under $2,000.00 .
A custom shop with vibrato and tailpiece is a bundle.
Standard SG just under $1200.00
Faded SG dot neck and no pickup covers in the $600.00 range.
Currently looking for an SG myself .

That's pretty much why my original post price stated $1500.00 or more...If they put the vibrato with the extended tailpiece, $1500 wont buy it. If it is finished as the '61 was (no nitrocellulose), $1500 wont buy it. If its anything at all like Derek's SG now, I still say $1500.00 won't buy it. $2000 grand may not buy it with the upgrades and the fact that it is a "Derek Trucks" model edition. Again, I hope I'm wrong. But I think the over/under is going up instead of down on this one. No signature model from Gibson is non-expensive. Just my thoughts based on currently owning 5 Gibson electrics.

Yup, look at any signature model...including such sought after pieces like the Keifer Sutherland signature 335. Never quite understood that one.

Derek definitely played the prototype signature model on Leno, you can see the 50th anniversary logo on the headstock. I think the reason it sounded a little muddier though is because they were playing Learn How to Love, Derek's got the guitar in open D for Susan's vocals and that's just the tone the song has.

Kind of thought this was in open D . Got some of that open D string slop. Like the tune. Gets a bit of radio play in the DFW area.

There probably won't be product pictures for a little bit, it seems like Derek owns the only model so far.

I wouldn't get my hopes too high that it'll be reasonable (knowing Gibson). They just released a Dickey Betts model. It comes in two flavors $9880 and $6115 MSRP.

Yup...the over/under here just went into the $3000-$5000 g range.

So...what exactly is it that makes that SG a Dickey Betts SG? The tuners?

The Duane Allman Les Paul was over $10k. The Dickey Betts red Les Paul was a little more reasonable at around $6000 a few years ago.

I would say the name Dickey Betts is the reason.

I'm really anxious to see what the DT SG goes for. They've had some fairly reasonable signature models. The Tommy Iommai (sic) comes to mind. The bare bones Pearly Gates wasn't too bad (sans the aging and signature).

The first run of DT signature SGs will be under $2,000.

Does this mean there will be later runs (perhaps aged models, signed models, etc) that will be more expensive?

No. The first run is the only run for now. There might be other runs at some point down the road.

Do you know how many will be in the first run? Sorry for all the questions...
