There seems to be an unwritten rule at bars that you really shouldn't bogart the juke box by playing Mountain Jam. I couldn't help myself last night. I had to hear it. The bar tender shut the song down right before the drums. Best $1.00 I ever spent.

a bar that has Mountain Jam on a juke box and gets miffy when people play it?

sounds like the great makings of a bar scene with Clint Eastwood as the aging hippie goes in for a brew, puts Mountain Jam on, the young yuppieish barkeep goes over to the machine at the drum part, yanks the plug out of the wall, and Clint, well, notices..... this is where the scene gets interesting......................

after realigning the young gents thinking and slightly his appearance, the bar now features Mountain Jam Night once a week

I've been obnoxious enough to break that rule several times!

We have a few bars around here with digital jukeboxes - you look up the name of the artist, and it offers several albums by that artist, which gives you the opportunity to play some serious deep cuts, and some long ones, like "Mountain Jam." I love it.

They also have an option where, if you add an extra dollar, your song choice will come up next, no matter how many other people have put in songs. Yikes!

My favorite song to put on a good loud jukebox is "Can't You Hear Me Knocking."

The bar that I played softball for back in the mid 80's to early 90's had Mt. Jam on the juke box. We used to play it all the time & it drove the owner nuts if he was there. He actually put a piece of masking tape over the selection, thinking it would fool/deter us from playing it. Needless to say, it didn't work !

Pooch when the barkeep pulled the plug on MJ you should've went into Bird/Dirty Harry mode "uh huh, I know what you're thinking punk...go ahead make my day" with a huge mug or Tequila bottle :-). That guy deserved a super mug vasectomy. Or since he pulled the plug at the drum solo, maybe he is a Moogis subscriber. LOL

Hey I'm almost positive I have been there. I know I went in, don't know if I left but since I'm here I guess I did. :-)

Also fun to put a second quarter in the juke box and play it twice in a row!

I used to play Mountain Jam in Billies 1890, I would play it just to see how long it would take for a patron to complain to the bartender. Most people never heard of it.

Arson had been suspected, but until recently no leads had appeared in the case. Diligent internet research by CHP personnel turned up an online confession in the case.

Charges in the case are pending."

LOL..a funny story..

Back in my Chicago days, when we would play gigs with the Vancura brothers, we would stop at a late night Mexican joint, open until 5am , where all the folks exiting the bars would go to get burritos.

JP Vancura decides to play the Journey song"Faithfully" on the jukebox to torture me..
SO, in true Mandlebaum fashion, i return the favor and played it two times...
He got up and played it three times...

for the next few months , each time we would go there, we would play the song repeatedly, with Pete Vancurs shaking his head in embarassment and laughing..

2 things happened as a result..

1) We always got our food very quickly
2) THEY TOOK THE JUKEBOX OUT !!!!!!!!!

I kid you not...

about a month later, they put in a new jukebox with all Mexican music...

And then, the cook told me the following.."ya know, I kind of miss that song now"....lol

this song became the "first dance" song at JP's wedding...

LOL

Somebody randomly played it at a bar I was at over the winter. At first, I figured it had to be a snippet that sometimes gets played which the juke is searching for the next full song. But, alas, it was not.

I never could figure out who it was who played it, but I thought it was pretty awesome.

The entire song played.

Sometime ago, my girlfriend and I were in the beautiful city of New Orleans, La. for a Saints football game. Not only did the bar where we settled in for the long haul (Johnny White's little Joint) have B & B... but the Jukebox had Gregg Allman's "I'm No Angel" as well. Between Laurie and myself, we must have played that song at least 50 times over the three day weekend... So we're sitting in the bar at about 3:00 am on the eve of the football game and the jukebox stopped playing...I mean Gregg Allman had been spinning non-stop for about 15 plays when the bartender looks at me and slaps down a fiver on the bar and says .."Well?....we're not gonna sit here in silence are we"?....So, I rose and deposited the $5 and played "I'm No Angel" as many times as the allotted money would permit. About 10 minutes later another couple entered, heard the tune and the woman shrieked..."Honey listen!..They have Gregg Allman on the jukebox"... we looked at the bartender just in time to see him flash one those "Oh my God" looks....
