Gregg Allman Talks Hep C Benefit, New Allman Brothers Album

TuneIntoHepC.comAs Gregg Allman prepares to perform with the Allman Brothers Band at the Tune In to Hep C Benefit Concert on Wednesday night at New York's Beacon Theater, the singer wants to pass along some hard-earned advice to other potential suffers of the disease. The revered musician, who needed a liver transplant because of the damage wrought by hepatitis C, is hoping to raise awareness with this event and through his involvement in the Tune In to Hep C organization in general.

"I'm just the first one that stepped forward and said, 'Hey, I had it, and you don't want to go as deep into it as I did,'" Allman explained to ABC News Radio on Tuesday. "I mean, there's ways of avoiding a liver transplant and if everybody will just listen to what we're saying, or they can [go to] TuneIntoHepC.com, they can learn anything they want to about hepatitis C."

The Allman Brothers Band will be joined at the Tune In to Hep C show by veteran R&B singer Natalie Cole, who has undergone her own battle with the disease. Cole revealed to ABC that she'll be performing three songs with the Allmans. "I don't think I've ever done anything quite like this," she said of the collaboration.

Meanwhile, Allman reports that there may be some new music in the offing from the ABB. He told ABC that he and Allman Brothers guitarist Warren Haynes have been working on new tunes, and the group likely will get started on a new album in the not-too-distant future.

"Mr. Haynes and myself, we do a lot of writing together. It usually comes out good… He's a real good writer," Allman said, adding that the Allman Brothers "need to get back in the studio and they will. As a matter of fact, next year would be just divine. There will definitely be an Allman Brothers record, for sure."

Sounds like Gregg convinced himself of a new album during the interview. Sounds good to me, make it so Gregg!

"next year would be just divine" & "Definitely"

I'll believe it when I hear it!... But please, bring it on!

I'd take an self financed EP of news songs recorded live from a show performed next summer. Sell it via Instant Live the way they do live shows now. Circumvents the label altogether and probably a good portion of the distribution costs as well. I'd bet I wouldn't be the only one buying such a product.

Didn't Warren say he's heading back into the studio with the Mule early next year?

And for a long time too!

I thought the use of "divine" to be an odd word choice for Mr A. Maybe he meant to say it's going to take divine intervention to get a record out.

He did but you know what? I think Warren should actually complete some songs for the Mule BEFORE going into the studio this time. That's just my suggestion.

A new record would be nice. Record it live, studio live, 3-5 new songs, sell it on HTN.....whatever, I'll buy it. Heck, take pre-orders. Just give us some music if possible

Gregg has been talking about a new album a lot since his brush with death. He may be very serious this time. I hope so. I'd take another Gregg solo album. I absolutely love LCB and play it all the time.

Warren and Gregg have been writing those same songs for 10 years now. It is a stock response to the question of a new album. He makes me laugh with the "Warren is a good writer" part. Translation - Warren write us some damn songs.

10 million having the disease certainly calls for somebody to step up to the plate and say that awareness and treatment need to happen. 10 million people is an epidemic.
