While camping this weekend, my wife made a comment about a couple of the ABB shows that I brought with me. It struck me that she really had a good grasp on the depth and quality of their music. Just 3 short years ago, she was an ABB Rookie that really did not get it. Today, she not only supports the passion but truly enjoys it,gladly hits the road with me and really understands the beauty behind the band. What lead me to wonder; do the rest of the spouses or significant others get it, tolerate it or just plain dislike it? Now it is time to work on my son as age (11) has turned his musical tastes into Pop and Rap : (

I met my wife in September, 78. The 1st thing she ever bought me was a copy of "Shakedown St".

I knew she was the one.

and yes, not only has she always like the ABB too, but will argue with anyone that they are the best touring band right now.

I've been married for 22 years in August, My wife has accompanied me to at least 1/2 the shows I've attended in that time span, She loves all things Allman, Clapton, & Crowes. The extended jams she can do without, but she's a rocker, I've taken my kids (17 & 18 in Nov) to a few Rock shows starting w/Kiss & Aerosmith in 2003, I've also sat thru "Their" shows i.e. Ashley Simpson/Roseland Ballroom, Jessica Simpson/Central Park Summerstage, Avril/Izod, As I Lay Dying/Starland, Etc.
My daughter complained that old guys look at her funny at Rock shows, but I think she just doesn't get/like it. I took only my son to see the ABB on th 40th Anniversary @ The Beacon and also Clapton/Winwood at The Izod (We ate at Steve's Sizzling Steaks and shot pool at Castle Billiards preshow. I took them both (& my sons GF) to Clapton/Beck at MSG and made a whole day of it eating in the city w/a Times Square visit. I try to give them good memories and I've taken to see "my" music too. I live in NJ and took her to a Black Crowes in Long Island last year and we had a blast, it was a nice Daddy bonding night just us two. a couple hours of driving time with just us was nice. It's a special time, I'll sacrifice the drink & smoke for a night and still love the tunage. Now that they're getting to be social butterflies and more self sufficient, I miss those days, now it's cash and car keys? (but then again... that sounds like the wife too?)

We have been married 23+ years and Brandt still doesn't get it, but goes along with me anyway. He likes the music, but doesn't have the passion for it that I do. He started coming around about 8 years ago when Dickey reached out and asked to shake his hand.

My wife enjoys going to shows with me, but as far as the music goes I wouldn't say she "gets it" in the sense we're talking about. But she has said on several occasions that the fans at ABB concerts are the nicest people she's ever seen.

My wife will go to some shows with me and have a good time. We have enjoyed some summer Mule shows together. But she certainly does not "get it." On the other hand she allows me to spend our money on this stuffc without complaint so she deserves commendation for that.

uh, No. Wife bummed along with me to perhaps a 1/2 dozen shows when we were dating in the late 80's/early 90's, but I'd have to caveman her (slam her head with stick and drag her) to another ABB show. Same with most of the stuff I like. Last show she went to with me was a Little Feat show a couple years ago. I thought she's go to Derek & Susan with me, but no.

Doesn't bother me - chance to hang out with my old friends.

Now my kids, esp the oldest and youngest, that's a different story. Daughter (17) is not that much into the ABB/Mule, but is definitely a music fan (Panic/Phish.) My youngest (12) is the real rocker of the group. He's been to a few Mule shows and some blues things with me.

My wife is a rocker - she loves Zeppelin, Queensryche, Floyd, hair metal, Sarah McLachlan, Foo Fighters - she likes when I put on the Deep Purple or the ABB.

Lamentably, she has lost her interest in seeing concerts, and she does not like live CDs unless they are very well recorded.

My spouse is also more of a (hard)rocker and most of the bands she likes i like too. She certainly likes the ABB but is not as addicted as me. She tolerates my passion for collecting everything "ABB". Of all the family bands she has seen in recent years i think she liked one of Susan Tedeschi's shows the most. She will finally see Gregg Allman at the upcoming Bospop Festival in the Netherlands next month but she won't be seeing the Bonn, Germany show the next day (which i "need" to see as well ).

Bands she favors are Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, Dio, Rainbow, Maiden, DP, Paul Rodgers, Sabbath & Priest. I'm happy she has such a great taste!

My wife - God Bless her - has always supported me, my passion for making music and love of the ABB. Being a guitar player, while growing up, the ABB provided a template for making music with my buddies – “see how the ABB do it - we can do it too.” The hours we spent together figuring out those riffs, who played what etc. bonded us.
I don't know if anybody that doesn’t play can really understand that. One last thing – my spouse gets it frequently - from me of course.
Have a great day!

My ex of 20 years once slept through an entire concert.

Part of the many reasons why he's an ex.

You are lucky indeed! Replace Maiden with Zeppelin and Paul Rodgers with ABB and Dio with King Crimson (I like him best in Sabbath and Rainbow) and I could live the rest of my life on that diet! Not that I'd want to...

No, not at all, but at least she doesn't begrudge me chasing after my shows.

Mine gets it, to a degree. She doesn't understand a 40 minute song with no lyrics though. About an hour after I proposed back in 2003, we popped the bubbly and we went down the Ocean PKWY to see the ABB at Jones Beach. She had no choice, she knew what she was getting into!!

She is a good woman though. Not only does she get me tickets for Jazzfest, but for Father's Day yesterday she got me tickets to see Robert Cray.

What my wife gets is my need to pursue this; and the fact that we are all better off if I go with a friend or my son.

With her musical ?tastes? I get the need that she really wants me along for the ride as her "female bonding" doesn't extend to music.

What you really need to get (for a successful marriage) is each other's needs.

Mine sort of did, knew what I was all about.
When the Bros played KC a few years back she sat between me and her present husband.
Keeping it in the family. I think she went to 3 or 3 ABB concerts while we were married and I know she went to a few of them before we even dated...so I guess she got it.
She wouldn't miss a Charlie Daniels or a Marshall Tucker show back in the day....I guess she did get it.

Anyone who's seen me at a show since 2003, knows that we're joined at the hip. We plan our vacations around music, even our honeymoon, we saw Derek with Clapton in Italy, twice!! I'm a lucky guy
