In my mind this was just going to be basically, Photo-finish, with slightly different sonics. Wrong! Completely different album and it's wonderful. Much as I love Photo-finish I almost feel cheated that I could have been listening to this for the last 30 years.

Just listened to the CD which i found in the mail yesterday. Really love it. Haven't heard the live disc yet. The note-book style packaging of de Deluxe Edition is absolutely beautiful. Strongly recommended. Will be a strong contender for "Album Of The Year".
Only little "flaw" might be that the discs will get more easily scratched the way they are stored in the book cover.

Long Live Rory Gallagher!

Oh Man! Thanks for the glowing positive reviews.

I was thinking the same thing. It'll be a slightly different version of Photo Finish, but I'll buy it because it's Rory.

Now....I gotta have it now !

Rory On !

I had the pleasure of reviewing Notes From San Francisco for American Blues News. We're doing a mini feature on Rory this week.

http://www.ameriblues.com/2011/06/07/rory-gallagher-notes-from-san-francisc o-cd-review/

The horns on "Brute Force & Ignorance" really throw me off. They sound pretty cool, and musically make sense but they don't quite gel, and would fit more with different lyrics. But I'm drawn back to this "new" version like a moth to a flame. So maybe they work after all.

Great review and I agree about "Brute Force And Ignorance". Must point out also that Wheels Within Wheels is not on Photo-Finish but "Fuel To The Fire" is.

I goofed on that one. I listened to a bunch of Rory while preparing the review. I'll have to fix that line. Thanks!

Sadly, tragically, ironic, considering that he died from liver transplant rejection due to excessive drinking.

Anyone who can get their hands on a copy of Gerry McAvoy's book, READ IT! One of the best and most heartbreaking R&R bios ever written. Hard to believe, but Rory was incredibly shy around women. McAvoy said he never saw Rory with a girl, and he was an terribly lonely and isolated person who drank alone and eventually succumbed to cirrhosis. So sad.

Listened to most of the studio disc tonight. Like most of it, some of it a lot. Not crazy about the horns on BF&I but I much prefer the version of The Mississippi Sheiks on here than the one he released - great slide on this one. Production seems kinda busy but I doubt these were finished tracks. It's a tribute to Rory that a record he tossed in the trash is better than 90% of the other crap out there. God bless Donal Gallagher for sharing all this great stuff with the fans. I wish he worked for the Allmans...
