...The Allmans or Classic Rock so to speak, that you might not readily admit to...
I am 50+ and I grew up on the classic rock bands that most of us write about. Having said that , I will say that I like House Music (or Lounge, neo soul... ) Sorta like disco from the 70's but more soul oriented. So...!
What do you like that is not similar to the Allmans...Cmon, you can come clean now :-)

I pretty well enjoy all types/styles of music...at least some songs of all types of music except Opera.I proably don't get into that 'cause I just don't understand it...

I also like most types of music.....the ones that aren't for me are rap, hip-hop, house, opera, and thrash metal....

but the 3 acts (other than ABB and related bands) I try to see whenever they make it to Chicago are Iggy Pop, Bob Mould, and Porcupine Tree...

I had a Culture Club cassette for about 5 minutes in the 80's. Then I discovered Randy Rhoads. Just in time too. I was really getting in to Karma Chameleon.

The ABB encompass so many styles from jazz, blues, rock, country, soul etc. it's tough to pick a band that is really far removed. Maybe Dream Theater, but guitar virtuosity is a common thread there as well as complex rhythms. How about W.A.S.P.? I still have LPs by The Hooters (not the boobs from the restaurant - the boobs from Philly that got famous with "And We Danced").

Aside from all of the blues and jazz and folk and country rock that I love, I am certainly into good soul and funk/funk rock, and some metal which has plenty of overlap as well. I enjoy the fusion of sounds so even some hip-hop or rap-metal works for me when it's good. I'm a big Bowie and Heads fan which is far different than the ABB, but is still under the rock umbrella. I suppose classical music is quite different and like that although I have limited knowledge of the music. Really anything if it moves you, right?

I tend not to like:

pop/radio country
Pure punk
80's-present R&B (Toni braxton, Beyonce, etc.)
late 80's hair metal (I can stomach Bon Jovi, MC, and even like Cinderella)
guitar virtuoso's that are not bluesy

i know what you are talking about. My favorite band is (Duane) Allman Brothers. But my favorite 2 songs are by Steely Dan.
When I was in high school in the early 70's people were into the Elton John, Yes and the regular top 40 stuff plus some of the out of the main stream bands like Black Oak and Brownfield Station. I was not but as my friends pushed the main strean bands I went way of the main track. I would go to bands like Elf, Atomic Rooster and so on. That said by going that route I got into RTF, Mavishnu (sp) and so on. This let me to get into the SF ballroom bands and other great stuff that would never see to top 40. After that long disertation I enjoy some disco (best disco tune Disco Inferno) and other music but I hate C&W and country.

I readily admit to it, I love rap. I was in my teens in the late '90s. I love 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., OutKast, Nas, Jay-Z, Lost Boyz, DMX, Eminem, Game, Dre, WuTang.

I still listen to their albums quite a bit, and will always consider them some of my favorite artists.

And Pac, BIG, and Jay-Z in particular are guys I consider musical "geniuses" (especially Jay).
