Actually, it sounds like Shrieve's new project is the best thing to happen to him in years. Mike Dillon, Skerik and Reggie Watts may not be household names, but they are all well-respected in the jamband community. Shrieve should be able to make more than $30 a night playing with that band, although I don't know if they plan to tour.

It is a shame he isn't in a better place financially, but he left Santana explicitly to choose art over commerce. I think his big mistake was that he thought with his skills, even if he wasn't making millions of dollars, surely he would be able to make a living?

Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out that way.

I could of swore I read that Carlos is reuniting his band from the first few albums next year to record and tour. I believe the article mentioned Rolie and Schon, so I would assume Shrieve will be a part of this too. Should be a decent paycheck for him. Hope it comes together, even though I wouldn't mind seeing Schon left out.

That was my understanding also. Carlos made a big announcement last year that Santana III was reuniting for a Tour and would be the lineup for his new album. It was also my understanding that the lineup was: Carlos Santana, Greg Rolie, Michael Shrieve, Neil Schon, Michael Carabello & Alphonso Johnson. David Brown passed away unfortunately. And I have no idea whatever happened to Jose Chipeto Areas (hope I spelled that correctly?)

This site has some pictures and details about them reuniting, rehearsing and even recording (per Schon) in Las Vegas last August. I haven't heard anything yet. When it was announced early last year, I was expecting it for 2014:
