Indeed a very sad day. Loved his music and his whole philosophy on life.....Definitely passed on the talent to his two sons though. Stephen was incredible at Wanee this year. May he Rest in Peace.

One of the most important and influential cultural and political figures of the 20th century, and he did it with just a guitar and a voice. In my opinion, only Dylan rivals him in this regard.

That was a sad day for my family My dad was, and is, a HUGE Bob Marley fan, and I remember him being devastated by the news.

The first time I ever saw my dad cry was when he was watching a video of "Redemption Song" not long after Marley passed away, I think it was this one....

RIP Bob, and a pre-Father's Day shout out to my Dad for turning me on to so much good reggae.

Bob's memory is alive & well in the Caribbean.

no,i don't mean all the stuff they try to sell with his pic on it--blankets,lighters,flags,pants,t's,etc....

rather,the rastas,the music,the spirit & the vibe are all there on islands like St. Kitts & St. Thomas--i've been down there a few times in the last year or 2 & befriended some in the Rasta/Marley community & it's refreshing & hopeful to see not only the love of the music but lives being lived with the values of peace,love, & tranquility that were so special to Marley.

I don't know if it's more unbelievable that it's been 30 years since Marley died or the fact that 1981 was 30 years ago. Where has time gone?!

I was hitch hiking to London to see Jack Bruce when the truck driver told me.I did not understand the significance then,but as you get older you understand that once they are gone they are gone.

RIP, Bob Marley....cancer sucks.

Yes it does..but who said he died of cancer...The CIA who murdered him?

"Rasta dont work for no CIA"

"Despite these failed attempts to tarnish and taint the reputation of the Rastafari Kulcha, Bob Marley and Peter Tosh continued leading the way for a world wide revolution in thinking and thought. Their militant brand of hardcore Rootz Reggae was revolutionary in its impact. The Word Sound & Power of their Muzik, inspired political, economic, social and religious changes all over the globe. The anti-apartheid movement in South Africa drew inspiration from Marley Muzik; the Zimbabwean freedom fighters engaged in a guerrilla struggle against Ian Smith’s colonial Rhodesian settler regime, drew inspiration from Marley Muzik; even young, rich White kids in America from name-brand families were starting to hang out at Wailers concerts, were starting to dig the message in Marley’s muzik and were becoming inspired to work for social change and to “Chant Down Babylon”

That was motive enough for Marley’s murder."

Resting peacefully, Bob ...

Old pirates, yes, they rob I;
Sold I to the merchant ships,
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit.
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty.
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfill the book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our mind.
Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look?
Yes, some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfill the book.
Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
'Cause all I ever had:
Redemption songs -
All I ever had:
Redemption songs:
These songs of freedom,
Songs of freedom.
