My vote was for not releasing the photo, but then maybe a month or two down the road, let it leak. Maybe this isn't realistic since such an important leak would make the administration look incompetent, but this way Obama doesn't have to appear to be directly caving to the blood-lusting public.

Great idea. Also I think releasing it to Congress only is a good idea too.

Or at least the Armed Services Committee members....

From an emotional perspective; I want to see it. Yes, I am bloodthirsty, if that's what you want to call it. I believe he is dead; I just want a picture I can post on the fence at the WTC when I walk by on the way to work where my deceased friends still remain.

We are so worried about inflaming the Muslims. Its a joke. That psycho hid behind the religion and killed tens of thousands of Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere (which I think was his real undoing). They should display the photo everywhere. Na, instead we allegedly give him the appropriate burial, like he was some sort of worthy person.

Why did they have no problem showing the guy who was head of Al Qeada in Iraq after he was iced? Why could we see Sadaam swinging from a rope?

At the end of the day, I am glad he is no longer here.

It has less to do with inflaming Muslims and more to do with decency. I for one don't want the cover of every newspaper to turn into Faces of Death. Also I'd hardly call being dropped in the ocean out of an aircraft carrier an appropriate burial, but anyway, desecrating his corpse or releasing his gruesome death photos accomplishes absolutely nothing. However emotionally satisfying it may be for you, I'm sorry but those are not valid reasons in my book.

I didn't really want to see either of those things. Pretty sure I've still never seen the first one.

Indeed and whether or not you get to actually see his exploded head, you're certainly free to take comfort or pleasure in knowing that he's gone.

Bin Laden has been dead since 2002? No body? No picture? Right? Good one.

They keep giving the former as the reason. As for decency, the cover of every news paper already is faces of death and our people consume more porn and violence than any other humans probably. If they were so concerned about decency they should not have killed him, or be involved in war.

This was what they did for Al Zarquawi. The same should be done for this piece of feces IMO. It has nothing to do with decency but more with the propoganda battle. i.e. if you fck with us, this is how you end up. The SEALs can make a reservation with Allah for you.

I think it's clear to terrorists what they're up against already, they don't need to see snuff photos to realize that our guys are not gentle. Also isn't it entirely possible that the photo above is nowhere near as graphic as the Bin Laden one? I mean we know he was shot in the head. Some reports have suggested that you can see some brains. I certainly don't want to see that on the cover of the Post. I wouldn't want my (hypothetical) kids to see that either. Fact is, you don't see corpses on the cover of newspapers and on the nightly news, and I'm OK with that.

If there are issues with the validity of the photo(s), I count on esteemed elected officials who will get to see them, such as Michelle Bachmann or Steve King, to bring those concerns to light.

I don't see what purpose could be served by releasing the photo. I personally don't have any need or desire to see it and if I had young children I wouldn't care to have them view it either (and if I had a son or other loved one over there I would definitely not want this publicly displayed). Based on past events and behaviour it seems that public display of the photo would just provide fuel to the fire and provoke a group of people who have embraced his violent ideas and distortion of Muslim and who view terrorism as a method for expressing these things. With today's technology it is nothing to create a visual image of a corpse but it doesn't really prove anything, does it? It still comes down to do you or do you not believe the accounts that have been provided of what went down in Abbottabad. (Me - I believe that Bin Laden was taken out by a group of US Navy Seals ... bless them for their service to this country, in this and every endeavor, and keep them safe). All of this just my opinion.

If the most honorable and elite military operations force ever assembled, the Navy Seals say the m-fer is dead then the m-fer is dead. End of story.

On to tracking down and killing the number 2 man on the computer list

x 2

No good can come from releasing the photo. Putting out a fire with gasoline does not work...let the fact that the man is dead stand on it's own merit. American lives are still in harm's way and a FOX TV 'moment' will do nothing.

This is not Level 26 of the Black Ops video game. Many folks here have loved ones on the front line; think of SkyPonyDogBoy's son...

The deed is done. Bloodlust will only lower lower us to their level. Remember Berg? May he Rest In Peace now. Let the dead bury the dead.

A good point was mentioned around here a while ago....when the pictures of Sadaam and his sons and the other terrorist were released, Obama wasn't the president. I support his decision to not release them to the public.

Of course that is the exact opposite of what they want to convey. Why else let it leak that he was given a "proper Muslim burial." Why not make a statement that Muslims who kill 3,000 Americans don't get Muslim funerals? They get cremated and the ashes scattered. Respectfully of course.

I saw some pictures reuters got of the other dead bodies left behind. They are fairly graphic. The point of releasing a photo is to prove he is dead and nothing more. If they aren't going to prove he is dead why didn't they just bomb the place?

Are you serious? They are going to join the jihad not because we killed him but because we released a photo?
