is anyone else feeling like I do that the summer tours and concerts are just plain awful this year. So far there is little that excites me. What a terrible line up thus far.

I'm happy about seeing Steely Dan this summer. But now that you mention it, it doesn't seem that there are a lot of 'big' tours this summer (at least not that I'm aware of .... but I've been in kind of a bubble as of late. )

Since I've sworn off of big name acts playing at big venues for big money I've been a happier man. There are many great smaller acts playing at small venues for small money. Small is the way to go in 2011!

Me too. Word

I can't afford more than two shows a summer anymore anyway.

I'm not feeling that way myself. I have on my plate right now: Robert Plant 4/22, Santa Cruz Blues Festival (Boz Scaggs, Tower of Power and Dave Alvin) 5/29, Buffalo Springfield 6/3, Deep Purple 6/25, plus a couple of small club shows: Chris Robinson 5/17, Jerry Miller (Moby Grape) 5/20. But maybe living in the Bay area has a lot to do with that.

Opening the season with Rush tonight (not real smart after being at Wanee on the weekend) but WTF. Other than that, I like many others this year will be doing the smaller venues based on cost and there just isn't all that much out there that I have much interest in.

Susan and Derek, Robert Randolph and more - an entire day of music for $40 plus 3 of my 12 year old and under kids get in for free....

Looking decent this summer, as opposed to last when all I saw was Santana/Winwood. Have tix for

Furthur
Steely Dan
Flecktones/Hornsby

Hoping for

Buffalo Springfield
WHB
RTF (and ZPZ?) Expecting tour dates any day now for this.

Might do Frampton too.

I'm happy with the concert selection this year. Recently saw Jackson Browne solo and then Bruce Cockburn. Will see Burton Cummings in May, Steely Dan and Peter Frampton in July and Gregg Allman in August and September.

We have some nice shows lined up already. We are hoping to catch Phish and Furthur as well. It doesn't seem too bad this summer, just no ABB but we didn't get that last summer either. After ten years straight years of seeing the abb, I am now going two years without and it is killing me. Hopefully a fall tour will bring them my way. Sounds like they might be looking to hit the road next year pretty hard.

We are going to try to hit a show at Red Rocks this year as well. Furthur at Red Rocks would make my year, so I hope they make it happen. We went last year and I would have to say it might have to be a yearly pilgrimage for me. That is one incredible place to see a show.

I guess it's all in where you are at and what you like, and mostly, what can you afford. I love music and going to shows, but I am getting priced out of concerts. I really have to limit myself to shows. I might go to 2-3 cocnerts a year, and that would be a good year.
My entertainment dollar is thin these days. I know alot of people on this site hit multiple shows of the same band throughout the year, but once is good enough or if I have seen them plenty of times in the past I would probably skip. Warren is coning through in May, but I am skipping him. I have seen Mule plenty of times and I know this is solo, but I am not interested in seeing Warren the soulman live. No offense, just not what I want to pay to hear that. I am going instead to Black Country Communion and thats it for the summer. Possibly Deep Purple in CHicago, and thats a big maybe. UFO is coming to Dayton , which is about 2hrs away from here, and anyone who knows me, knows I am a HUGE UFO MSG fan. I want to go , but I have to look at the pros and cons of that and weigh them against other shows and have to do whats best, not what I want. We usually try and do alot of local, regional music instead, more affordable and you still have quality , and hey, it's live music.
