I just found out that I have a reservation for 15 at my restaurant Saturday. The occasion is the 80th birthday of a friend of my mothers. They have been friends for 75 years since meeting in kindergarden. I thought it would be cool to out together a presentation for the occasion. I've located the 1948 year book, am contacting the historical society, have asked mom for photos, found information on the year she was born and the year they met, cost of a loaf of bread, gallon of gas, rent, etc. Thought i'd put together a gift basket of vintage candy. I only have a few days to put this together and have always found helpful info from my friends here. Was wondering if anyone had suggestions to help make this an extra special occasion.

You're already on the right track. Maybe also look into the popular music of the time?

I found the Walt Disney cartoon that won the Oscar for animation in 1936. It's on U Tube. Think I'll copy on disc and show on the TV.

Pudding. I think old people really like pudding.

It sounds like you've got it covered. I'm sure they'll love it.

It sounds like you are going to have 15 very, very happy guests. And the cool thing is all the attention to details that you are planning...and it is in fact a very kind, loving and very commendable gesture. Bet there won't be a dry eye in the house!!!

Julie,

I have been searching feverishly for an email I received several years ago

The email contrasted what life was like two generations ago to what we have now.

Can anyone help Julie on this one??

I've learned so much in just a day or so. It was the worst of times, unemployment was almost 18%, but also the best of times. The best things in life truely are free. To hear my mom tell of riding bikes, hanging in the parks, the beach, the old movie houses and window shopping, makes me yearn for those simple times. Also found out the childhood nicknames they had for each other. My mom was "highpockets" and her friend "slats". Everyone should chat more with thier mom's. Once they are gone these sweet stories are lost.
