From what I know of their history- BT was the least admired of the original 6 by DA.
Now he seems to be The Go -To- Guy for the band.

To a younger fan like myself....He just sounds like an angry, grumpy old man !!!

I love Gregg's voice and Warren's and DT's playing.

Gregg has said even recently that when Duane died and they were looking for a leader, Gregg said "Don't look at me." It seems he did not want the leadership role. He does seem to like leading his own band though and has mentioned that with his solo band there is only one "chef" compared to the ABB where everyone has input.

Regarding:

"From what I know of their history- BT was the least admired of the original 6 by DA"

For a "younger fan" you apparantly seem to know more than a whole bunch of "older fans". Doesn't sound like Duane to go on record saying that he admires a particular band member the least. What's your source for that statement?

Berry tried to take on the leadership role after Duane died but he couldn't handle it. I think he was just too sad. After Berry died, Dickey was the frontman and he did a damn good job.

I wouldn't say Butch is the leader or the spokesman. Well, maybe he is in his own mind...I don't know for sure but he always steps up to the mike and tells it like he wants it to be. He makes a lot of the major decisions - all of which, I think, are a disaster for the band. It's a miracle they've survived.

My opinion only.

Dickey did a good job for awhile but his demeanor and other issues almost caused the destruction of the band as well so i would not go as far as he did a damn good job. He did fill the void when everyone else was too doped up. I think Gregg for years was too busy getting loaded so he was never a good person to put out there. Presently it is just the reverse.

I don't see Butch as the spokesman but just somebody who is more out spoken then
Gregg and Jaimoe. I don't see Butch as the leader either. It's a personel guess but i think the major decisions are up to the three of them. And Gregg can eventually put his veto on things.

I agree. Many groups lead by committee and I think thats the way with the ABB.

I find that to be ridiculous. Disaster for the band????? In what way. They are still firing on all cylinders after 42 years. How many bands are even a shell of their former selves after that kind of time period. They have been and are doing just fine under the decisions that have been made regardless of who is making those decisions. All of the Butch bashers just need to give it up. He is the spokesman and nobody in the band seem to have a problem with it so why should you. The band seems and has seemed extremely happy on stage playing music together and that is what makes the music sooooo good and keeps the music fresh. No going through the motions in this band. I do not consider Butch the on stage leader though. I think Warren is the leader and the main member that has kept the band together and going strong. If you don't like Butch's spokesperson role just don't listen to or read any of his interviews and just enjoy the music. We aren't gonna have this that much longer and I for one am grateful for every show I attend. There is gonna be a big void for me when the magic of the Allman Brothers Band ends.

yes when the day comes that this band dies, what will we all do with the time we spend on the website. Regarding leadership, it seems to me that as far as the music Warren is the leader. I think Warren always to be running the show when the band is performing. I have no idea who makes the business decisions etc, probably input from everyone but on stage , I would think Warren is running things. Just my opinion!!!
