I saw Bruce and the boys last Friday here in Atlanta, and they sounded great! The new guys seem to be getting the hang of Bruce's Zambified style. Nick Johnson on guitar, Kevin Scott on bass, and Derek's brother Duane on drums are all outstanding players, and Bruce is singing and playing great these days.

I talked to Duane between sets and he sounded excited about the Iridium gig. Anybody who is going to be in New York next week should definitely check it out. Whether any members of the ABB show up to sit in or not, you're guaranteed a great show.

Nick Johnson (guitarist) is from Rockland, MA. His Mom and Dad are coming down for the show and they are ecstatic. I was with Nick's uncle when he took him to his first Allman Brothers show around 11 years ago. He was 13, and seemed to decide right then and there what he was going to do the rest of his life.

Young Nick chose wisely He is a serious player and getting better all the time. I knew he was from Mass, I remember him going back home for a wedding or something recently.

Everybody come out and support Bruce and the gang, you won't be sorry!

Yup; his grandmother who had been a widow for about 11 years, remarried. She's in her late 70's and loves her Nick. I guess Col. Bruce wasn't too happy about him missing some gigs though.

This same band will be at my local watering hole a week from today.
I've talked at length with all the members except Mr. Hampton. They are very approachable, friendly people. Kevin and Duane played in a local band here (Highly Kind) for a couple of years, and Nick sat in occasionally. Don't act like a tourist and they will talk some music with you.

In October 2009 they played a barbeque place in Birmingham after a Widespread-ABB show. Showing up and sitting in were Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. Also in attendance, Jimmy Herring, Jimmy's parents, son, and daughter Cameron, Brian Farmer, and the red-headed guitar tech who's name I don't remember. It was like being at their house.

"young Nick"

I think Nick is 23. And, he is young. It's mind blowing to think that Duane was only a year older when he died. And, here we are still digging the music he and his bandmates created.

Anyway, I hope the show went well at the Iridium last night/this morning. Any reviews?
