I've been to five Beacon shows so far and am going to three more this week. So far Gregg has messed up the lyrics in at least one song per show. He's messed up the lyrics on "Every Hungry Woman" twice. To make things worse, Jaimoe has messed up a handful of times on the drums.

This upsets me! What does everyone else think? Overall the shows have been great and Derek and Warren are playing really well. I'm just bothered by the screwups.

One of the reasons why Dixie Down is such a bittersweet selection. I'll take botched lyrics anyday over coming in too early on vocals though. He stopped a hot One Way Out guitar intro dead in its tracks at the Macon show last year. Set II closer taboot.

If you don't like Greggs flubbs just grin and bear it, when Gregg does have lyric trouble most of the band laughs, escpecially Warren and Oteil. I myself laugh it off.

How old are you Tony? 67? That's called a "Senior moment". Bless Gregg and Jaimoes hearts x 1000 for still being out there and performing, overall, in a very capable fashion. Don't sweat the small stuff, and just enjoy what we have for as long as we have it.

THANK YOU. Amen.
Not to mention in Gregg's case -- the man has had s-e-r-i-o-u-s health issues for the past 4 years, or so. And, oh yeah, including a liver transplant late last June. Amazing that he is back out on tour and giving his all, sounding great.

I just got bifocals. It sucks to have a reminder of my diminishing faculties, but they help me do my job.

A teleprompter is the same thing. There is no shame in it. Phil and Bob of Furthur use them.

k, I would like to point something out to you....in case you have forgotten...gregg had a Liver Transplant 9 months ago...I am quite sure that he is more pain, and on medications because of it. We are all lucky Gregg is even here, and that there is a Beacon Run this year. Not to mention, the lifestyle Gregg has lead would probably kill most of us. So, in the meantime, I am sorry you are disappointed, but, let's cut brother Gregg some slack please?

Gregg uses lyric sheets .. and puts on his reading glasses when he has to. I think sometimes it's a def 'brain freeze' ... due to any number of things , no doubt ...and last Saturday, he clearly had difficulties with his ear piece. Another thing is ... he is so far from the rest of the band, off to the side. Tonight I noticed him waving, trying to get someone's attention.

Whatever. He is up there no matter how he may be feeling post transplant and to my ears he sounds terrific. I can handle the occasional mess-up. And, BTW, I actually think there have been far fewer this year than last.

Gregg has been messing up lyrics for decades. Dickey used to have off nights as well. I did not become a fan of this band by waiting for them to achieve the album version of their songs. I like the way they redefine familiar songs night after night, always seeming fresh and new. Sometimes a lyric or a note just isn't meant to be played just because you expect it to be there. You can still love the moment.

I don't mind when gregg is behind or ahead of the song...or misses one all together. Part of what makes every Brothas show it's own. just got back from the city Sat and cant wait for 2012

I have to keep lyrics in front of me when I sing, I can't remember them all anymore.

Nobody is perfect.

Keep looking for mistakes and you will find they happen.

Jerry Garcia started flubbing lyrics in the mid 70s.
I don't think anyone loved him any less.

Gregg sounds awesome

I would cut Gregg some slack also. Think about putting yourself in that positon first off. Lead vocalist, playing organ on stage in front of a few thousand people, with camera's going to another many thousands of people. Its no easy task. Alot of pressure. After having surgery to save your life, and still willing to rock out on stage. I would say we are beyond lucky to still have Gregg performing. Its a huge gift.

For YEARS we have referred to these as a "Gregg Allman Moment".

Usually you get one per show.

It's no big deal, we all look at each other and smile.

Gregg is human, these happen, wouldn't be an ABB show without one.

RELAX.

there is no question, greggs forgetting of lyrics and losing his place in songs so that he comes in at the wrong spot etc has become more noticeable and at times somewhat distracting...that said i am enjoying this run immensely and have been to 5 shows thus far....i have come to expect the flubs and try to ignore them and enjoy the music

I think that anybody who sings in a band that varies the set list as widely as the ABB does each night will mess up lyrics. Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam is an example. PJ plays a pretty wide set of songs and Eddie takes his lyric book on stage with him each night and he messes up lyrics all the time. That is part of what makes playing live dangerous and can also make it magical.

I would also say that nightly mess ups aren't limited to the singers. I'm sure Derek, Warren and Otiel hit bad notes also, they just get off of them quicker.

Most bands when playing live do the same set and arrangements night after night.I think that we need to cut the oldies a bit of slack especially as they keep it as fresh as they do.

Loving Gregg's voice and phrasing as much as i love duane's tones and licks, it is sometimes hard for me to watch/hear him forgetting lyrcs or stepping down in tempo, but you have to consider the whole context really.

Let alone the health issues (you still need to consider that Gregg's singing takes a LOT of energy), each show lasts at least 2 h 30 mins each. It would be a lot easier to perform for 1h 30 mins, thus saving energies and avoiding mistakes, yet these guys give it all out each and every night. I think it is more than acceptable that you get one or two mess ups every now and then.

especially if you consider the large amount of songs that these guys are playing throughout a limited number of shows, often changing arrangements and sometimes playing stuff they hadn't played in years.

Also, Gregg performs some of these songs with his solo band as well and most of the times the arrangements sensibly differ from the "original" versions (apart from Don't keep me wondering, which is more or less the same as with ABB).

If you take the Beacon run as a whole so far, both gregg's and jaimoe's performances have been excellent. Surely some nights are better and more inspired than others, but really... out of 10 concerts, approx 30 hours of music (!!!!), i feel that the magic of this band can only be equalled or bettered by the same band in 1970/71.

and it's not that gregg was not messing up back then either

enjoy the midnight rider while he's still riding

Tony, I enjoy allowing using the music to be the vehicle that transports me. It's like taking the subway in NYC. Once you get used to learning how to use it as a means to get from one place to another, you'll find it's the best way to travel!
