Another legend is lost. VERY sad news indeed.
Ride in peace Pinetop.

From his website.

Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins
It is with deep sadness that we announce that Pinetop Perkins passed away on
Monday, March 21, 2011 at his home in Austin, TX.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced as soon as they are formalized.

A couple of pics of when I saw him last year.

That's a bummer. I've been listening to my Muddy Waters CD a couple of times a month lately. Muddy introduces the band on a song and it's cool how he announces Pinetop. You can tell they got a kick out of playing together.

Here's to Pinetop and Muddy together again doing their thing.

Man, what an ironic bummer. Pinetop was just on Austin City Limits /PBS station Sat. the 12th down here in NC....I remember watching the whole show just to see Pinetop. His vocals were kinda weak, but he sure could still twinkle those pearly keys. RIP Pinetop, you had a long and productive life. You will be missed.

97, almost 98, years old. That's a hell of a long life. He's seen and done an AWFUL lot in his life. How many bluesmen live that long? Not many...

Thanks for the tunes, Pinetop. Now, you rest....

Wow...this is very sad news. Truly a legend of the blues....I'm very grateful that I was lucky enough to see him perform with the ABB at the Chicago Theater on 8-8-01:

http://www.allmanbrothersband.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Calendar& amp;file=showCalendarMonth&tapers=&type=viewevent&year=2001& ;month=08&day=01&eid=1010

Watching Derek literally "play' homage to Pinetop during The Sky Is Crying was very emotional for me.

Rest In Peace, Joe Willie....

R.I.P. Pinetop. He had a full life. I was lucky enough to meet him last October at his annual homecoming at the Hopson plantation where he worked as a young man. Interesting story...he got a deferment during the war because he was the only one who knew how to operate the new-fangled cotton picking machinery. Another legendary blues player gone.

I am so sorry to hear the news. There are few legends of his stature still living. Before I saw him last year, I learned that he LOVES McDonalds, and I was honored to bring him some McDoubles, his favorite.

I expect we will see a tribute by the ABB tonight.

Sad news indeed. I've been listening to a lot of his music recently on the old Muddy Waters recordings. I'm convinced Muddy is up there waiting on him.

Thanks for the music Pinetop.
