So after the first five shows what do people think?Nearly all the comments have been good. What songs are missing? What do people think of the guests so far?

I only saw last night, but it was terrific. While there are so many good things to talk about, Gregg's strong vocals really stand out. The man is in very good shape, the best I've heard in years.

I was at the 12th and the 14th shows and loved them both. If you put the first set from the 12th with the second set on the 14th together it would make one of great shows of all time. The guests have been great: Bill Evans on sax is a highlight for me. Going back on the next 2 saturdays. Can't wait!

great so far, i was at friday night and this tuesday, watched the monday show on msg. only read about the other 2 on the site. highlights and observations from what i have seen and read here
Derek just keeps getting better from year to year which is probably why folks are saying these might be the best shows in a long time

Oteill also seems to me to be taking it up another notch. He is just blowing that bass out and his leads are fantastic

Gregg's vocals , particularly tuesday night were incredible. He has not been very noticeable on the Hammond or keys unfortunately IMO although Tuesday evening I finally noticed him grabbing some leads and sounding great

Drummer are great as always

Warren is just amazing and keeps getting better and better as far as interacting with Derek. His vocals and song selections are one of my favorite things about this band and they never disappoint.

The setlists have been amazing so far and I for one love the jazz and bluesy shows

No disappointments yet, i am going to this friday and again on the 24th and looking forward to the remainder of the run.

We need to hear Dreams for real, without a sax, and with Derek playing the entire song. We need to hear a full Blue Sky as well as a full No One to Run With.

Would also really like to see if they can bring back Nobody Knows. I saw some comments about that song from other people on the forum...could be a fantastic revival.

I think I remember Butch either saying or posting that he can't talk Gregg into singing "Nobody Knows" and I would settle for the instrumental Blue Sky they have done from time to time. To me, it's an unofficial tribute to Dickey. Not that I don't feel the same about Liz Reed, Jessica, Southbound, Nobody to Run With etc.

But, I am happy so far. I enjoyed Monday's show immensely.

I was just mentioning a more extended blue sky instrumental, the type we've seen in the middle of Rocking Horse and following Little Martha. You're right that we won't ever hear the words again!

I personally think this run is giving 09 a run for its money, seeing a couple of bigger more rock oriented guests would be nice but not needed. I was fortunate enough to see Warren play with Furthur for a set on sunday and they opened it with Blue Sky (Warren on vocals and lead guitar) but ide also like to hear the Allmans jam it again. Derek and warren were smoking hot on Whipping post and Hot'Lanta last saturday. If there were something i would change it would probably be playing a little less JaBuMaBlahBlahBlahs

I only saw the 12th but Derek is really stepping it up, his playing just continues to soar.

Hell let Warren sing it. It's too great a song to stay buried.

Getting to play Duane Allman's guitar is giving him a lot of cosmic inspiration. Somebody ought to ask him what if felt like the first time he picked it up and put it on, but I think we can all say his playing is more self assured and confident.

Dickey does NOT want the band playing that song, and Derek is aware of that because I personally mentioned it to him at a gig in Connecticut, he didn't understand why it would bother Dickey if he played it without him but at least the band has been respectful enough not to bring it into the show. It is Dickey's song. Like Ramblin' Man, that is his song. Elizabeth Reed is also his song, but there is some much jamming and improvisational room in there, the band can do that and it is different each time they play it.

I think they came out of the gate really fast this year, and everybody was excited to be playing together. 3/14 from start to finish - but especially set 2 - was unquestionably one of the best shows I've ever seen. Oteil has been amazing. Gregg's improvising a bit more on the organ, and he can't belt it out quite like he could before his surgery, but he's finding some more nuances in the songs and as long as you can hear him, it sounds terrific.

People, there is something very magical brewing at this year's run. I've had numerous veterans come up to me and go "WTF?! These shows are off the charts! How DO they DO it?!"

Best damn band in the land! This feels like 2009 again. I am filled with contentment at what I am hearing...

Goodnight,

JNB

Well the Friday March 11th show was my first ever at the Beacon. I thought it was just amazing. I knew they were going to put on a good show, but it surpassed my expectations. I purchased the instant live as soon as I got back home. If I could come up with the cash I would definitely be making a return trip for this run.
